Very excited about this light. Held off on the Emisar D4 because of the quick thermal step down. Looking forward to see user reports and first impressions.
Several questions for you guys.
Which one (Nichia, XPL Hi, etc) have you been ordering?
The Nichia runs hotter and is less bright than the XP-L HI. But what about when the battery is at half capacity, with less voltage? In this circumstance, since the Nichia has a lower Vf, does this not mean the Nichia will have a better “regulated” output compared to the XPL – HI without significant drop in output?
In other words, other than CRI and TINT, does the lower Vf of the Nichia have any advantages over the other emitter options? Do the lower Vf LED’s have advantages with certain drivers only (ie, Boost, Buck, Linear, PWM/DD)?
Always a fan of xpl hi.. i dont know why. Maybe better throw??
Anyone knows where to buy Shockli batteries that will ship to Australia for this light?
I emailed shockli and they did not reply and also windyfire they got back to me and said they were not sure if could ship to Australia but never heard any more.I have just ordered some Keeppower 6000mha from supersport 600,expensive but will arrive in a couple of days .

Does GearBest ship batteries to Australia? They have them in stock.
Some of the lights should be hitting the USA here in a few days.
I am hoping that it is not going to be October for me, like it was for the Q8…. Thank you DHL, putting it on an actual shipping container that sat in port (Seattle) for 3 months.

I first ordered the high CRI Nichia version, but will probably get a second one with XPL HI for pure power – like i did for the D4. I like both.
I’m also interested in the lower Vf impact of the Nichia and would appreciate to read answers from the tech guys.

We have a similar shipping problem to Canada right now. I could not find a source for the Shockli at any reasonable price but I found a store which claims to ship the LiitoKala which are close enough in capacity for me. I hope I’ll actually receive them.
And today is? The 8th, right? Sometimes when you order from Intl-Outdoor it seems to be sitting in processing forever and all of a sudden it's in your mailbox. Don't know why that is...
lol thanks Dale glad you responded as I’ve never ordered from them before so not sure how there shipping is etc...All my other torches are from zebralight.
Do we know the size of Emisar’s aux LEDs for sure?
Edit: I don’t have good tools for measuring things that small, but I think Emisar might be using 0603-sized LEDs. I’m seeing about 1.7mm x 0.8mm. They appear to be smaller than the clock kit LEDs, which I think are 0805.
It’d be nice if these things all used metric units, instead of inches.
Oh I see now the industry uses inches,so 0403 is 40 thousandths,063 is 63 thousandths etc.
Took a while for that to sink in.
Is it possible to config a simple one mode lamp? eg 600lm On/Off with the stepped ramp.
If you ramp to 600 lm, it will do on/off at that level by default unless you switch to a different level.
Or there’s the stepped ramp, which can be configured for anywhere from 2 to 150 total steps. It’d take a bunch of clicks to set either end to 600, since that’s pretty close to the middle of the ramp, but I think you could set both ends to 600 and the number of modes to 2, if you really wanted it to only do that.
It’ll still have access to turbo though, and access to other modes (including the smooth ramp). There is no muggle mode in this UI.
Or you could ramp to 600lm and go to momentary/tactical mode. It’ll stay there, at that level, until power is disconnected.
In my strong opinion all hotrods should have a muggle mode, that can not be activated by accident and that can not be disabled by accident. The X5/X6 firmware had a good working one, I wished that Hank had seen the value of it.

Sometimes I’d even leave my X6 in muggle mode, because it’s useful as a second mode group.
At least the D4S can switch between two ramp modes, since they each have their own floor and ceiling values. Like, one for indoor use and one for outdoor use, or however the user wants to configure it.
In place of muggle mode, a cell that won’t deliver high performance but otherwise still works is a good idea. Like a Panasonic B, it’ll work fine, it just won’t burn anything.
Rats, just received a refund for the battery amount. Are the Thrunite 26650’s fairly good? Might get a NW Catapault V6 and borrow the battery out of my cool white for the D4S.
I ordered the Nichia D4S as I don’t have anything with that led. I’m still a total noob with only a half dozen lights, but figure I might as well see what this whole high CRI thing is all about.
I love my Catapult V6, but I am not sure at what amperage the protection kicks in with the included cell. The Emisar D4S is meant to use unprotected cells, it can draw 10+ amps, the Thrunite cell may also be too long to use.

Ah right, forgot about the protection. I think I was just trying to come up with a reason the get the NW Catapault. The CW is awesome (much more compact and throws almost as far as the Klarus G35), but nothing wrong with collecting the whole set. Unless you ask wifey of course.
I’ll have to see if there’s anyone in Scratchnwin that carries 26650’s. Sucks that very very few companies will ship batteries into Canada anymore.

Is there a blf discount on this site? Tempted by this pocket rocket…
I don’t think Emisar has done group buys or coupons in the past. Hank just seems to make the lights such a compelling price for the features from the start that they sell themselves without promotions.
Maybe there will be a price drop long term like the other Emisars, but who knows.
I finally got time to mod my D4S a little. I swapped in the prototype’s MCPCB so it’s now a 3A tint instead of 1A, and I tried out the flashing vias. I can confirm it works, but you may need to hold it very still during flashing or place it on a table and not touch it. I just used some solid-core wire I had laying around which was small enough to fit into the vias. I think it was 24awg or 26awg.
So now instead of ~6500K with RampingIOS V3, it’s ~5100K with Anduril. And I didn’t have to take the driver out.
I still don’t have a good 26650 cell though, so I don’t know what the peak output is. It’s difficult to measure that many lumens anyway.

I haven’t bought a flashlight in a couple years now but this one is doing it for me. Going to buy it with XPL-HI V3’s.
I measured 1.7 mm x 0.8 mm, so I’m pretty sure Emisar is using 0603.

I won’t be loaning this one to granny.

Emisar sells cells with FL purchases.

Once you go high CRI, you will never go back.

Emisar D4S XP-L HI 3A Green on its way from MTN!!
weeeee!
This has been asked before, and I searched the thread…does this UI have a factory reset?
When I'm spending mon€y foolishly, I like to do it wi$ely...
I have all the flashlights I need, but not as many as I want...
No, it has no factory reset.

Just received shipping notice from intl-outdoor. Yay.
How come you didn’t order from mtn?
never fear shadows…it means a light shines nearby
Mine is still processing from Intl-outdoor. I figured they would ship from intl-outdoor straight to RMM, then Richard would ship it to me.
Same price, and love buying from Richard… but I was hoping to get the D4S sooner by ordering direct.
Hopefully mine ships soon as well.
