***EDIT: New Klarus XT1C 2018*** + New Klarus XT1A (2018) [Post #22 - some impressions on this light]

EDIT - 5th September 2018
Found this video last night, from the New Version of Klarus XT1C 2018

_

I saw this earlier this year in a video from the IWA 2018! Now Klarus is releasing it, as seen on this video :

Looks ALMOST perfect, depending on the UI, if only it had a better spread of output.

1000,80,5 is hardly ideal lumens spread. That means on turbo it is going to drop from 1000 to 80 fairly quickly, and then seem far too dim to be practical after your eyes have taken in 1000.

At least with the AA it has a 300 output, far more practical I think, but it won’t be cheap, so not worth it to use as a 300 lumen light.

Somethin’ looks not quite right in the relative runtimes between 14500 and AA. If they both put out 80 at medium the 14500 should not have twice the runtime if they are comparing it to a 2450 Eneloop. They have roughly comparable amounts of energy storage.Am I the only one that finds that fishy?

Operating at different voltages, so boosting circuitry comes into play and chews more power, and probably drops out at a voltage that leaves more energy in the battery which is then unusable. At different power draws and voltages the circuitry is more or less efficient, so the run times aren’t always predictable or proportional.

That’s what I would expect anyway, I don’t have experience with measuring these things, but it explains why expectations can’t always be met.

I didn’t do much more investigation on this, but the UI seems to always start on High > Medium > Low!
Seems a bit tactical with that “special” button on the tail! More than that, I didn’t do the math for the runtimes or stepdowns :person_facepalming:
But maybe this can be of any interest to some of us!!

Might be like the Mi7 - one click is high, but a long press goes straight to low. No way to get to medium without going through turbo first.
That is a deal breaker for me. Acceptable on the Mi7, but not for 1000 lumens.

I think there is 1-click access to low mode in the Outdoor setting.

Yup, with the “Mode Switch” that can be done
Here’s the link for the manual:

Yesterday I sent a message to Klarus asking where and when these would be available. So far, no answers! I’ll keep you updated when I have some :+1:

Do you know if these are electronic or mechanical switches?

Both my Mi7 units are draining the batteries quite a lot if I don’t unscrew the cap.

I guess they are electronic switches, looking to what they have done in other lights! Don’t know if these switches also provoke that parasitic drain, though!
In a short read, it seems some lights from Klarus, even those that don’t have this model of switches, have parasitic drain. Let’s see how this is done

Now available for preorder at Banggood

Let’s hope for a good discount code & review…! Looks promising

Take a look at Fin17 Group for this light

Thanks, I found it

Sorry, I was in the cellphone so it was tricky to find the thread and copy-paste the link!
I also forgot to mention that M4DM4X also has codes and maybe freeme, bilakos and petemer!

So…probably, plenty options

I just hope they ship it soon :sunglasses:

I was in a bit of panic because I lost my modded Tool AA
But fortunately I found it back

I will wait for a review. Looks quite nice, but I hope it comes in neutral / warm white and I miss the illuminated tailcap. Maybe the battery indicator can be used as a locator light at night.

Glad you found your Tool AA, that is surely a nice light mate

About the Klarus, well at least for those that will get it from BG through Fin17 group, will have to wait some more days till it’s available. It says it will be there on 6th September… :weary:

Fortunately we have plenty of lights to play while it’s not here

Yes thanks, I like it a lot. Small fairly complex and powerful EDCs are great.
But to EDC the small size unfortunately makes it easy to loose them.

I’m having holiday on a campsite this week. I walked back the other night with the tool AA and got the comment “oh, we thought there was a car approaching” And it wasn’t even on turbo…

It would be great to have a comparable light that can be easily repurchased for ease of mind and availability to all.

Looking forward to the reviews!

EHEH:

That’s the feeling

BTW, there is a new, smaller Tool AA (2.0), and also a Massdrop edition (called Vega) with metal swich
Here’s the thread where those are being talked about: Massdrop Vega! Starts Friday Nice AA/14500 flashlight

And here’s a video comparing the old and new AA: Massdrop Vega! Starts Friday Nice AA/14500 flashlight - #22 by MascaratumB
Just in case you need some inspiration for modding :stuck_out_tongue:

About the Klarus, we’ll have to wait! But I have a feeling I’ll like it, specially due to the 1 touch high, 1 touch low, 1 touch strobe it has, all in the rear.
I’ve been using the Olight M2R and love it, so having something quite similar in a smaller shape/form will be nice

Meanwhile, enjoy your Tool and don’t lose it

A recently released video (not review as it is made by Battery Junction store, to which I am in no way associated)

OMG that vega in OD green kills it. I want one! I’ll just swap the internals from my current one. That looks awesome.

I don’t like the metal switch. I never really used the ti AAA a lot because of that. It tends to activate in your pocket too easy. And an illuminated mod is also hard (and to keep it waterproof.)
