Who makes a good solid AA or AAA penlight that is really bright and floody? I just got a red Thorfire PF04 today and am a little surprised how much it lights up my garden at only 210 lumens. Motivates me to find other floody penlights that are even brighter.
i have acebeam pt10 that can do 360 lumen with 2*aaa batteries
Forgot my pen
Thanks mrheosuper. Is the beam all flood on the pt10?
Zanflare F3. Fairly floody. 150 lumens. $20 Canadian. Don’t know if that’s a good deal or not.

Sometimes people call a single AAA light a pen light but I've always thought a real penlight has 2 AAA batteries .
I like the O pen best since it's pretty sexy and looks like areal pen . I also like the IYP365 nichia lumintop ..both are floody but not crazy bright .

This is an interesting question to pose. I’d like to know what answers BLF can come up with as well. I didn’t know about the Acebeam PT10. I’ll have to look it up now.
EDIT: Looks like it has been around a while already. Here’s a BLF review by member Budda from 2016.
EDIT AGAIN: Looks like I wouldn’t like the UI of the PT10.

I thought an AA battery was once called a penlight..
Maybe just here in NL, dunno..
My brightest 1x AAA light (on Alkaleaks or NiMH) is the Manker E02.
Don’t know the numbers, but it’s impressive.
…but is it a pen light, when it’s an angle light…??
Boaz, do you know where O’Pen can still be bought? I thought they were discontinued a couple years ago.

Klarus P20 is rated at 230 lm. Beam intensity is 1059 cd, so it’ll be more floody than your Thorfire PF04 (2200 cd).
Nichia 219C emitter as well.
I have a couple Preon 4Sevens versions of the O’Pen, one is always on my desk. I gifted a few family with the O’Pen in orange and bronze. Very classy looking penlights.
Okay, so it’s about pen shaped lights.
I ordered this recently:

Not the brightest, i’m sure.. Can’t even write..
I have no idea what it says or how old the ad is, butt….
O’pen for 180,00 RON
I have Sofirn SF02 in red. It should have 300 lumens. I do not know how much she really does. It’s actually shining more than my other Thorfire PF04.

I have the Olight, 47’s, thorfire and lumintop, all good chices with good output although the first 2 are no longer made. The olight gets extremely hot on high to the point where you have to change modes or turn off. Lumintop has a nice metal clickie.
xpl-hd and small reflector, you shouldn’t expect throwing from this light
there is hotspot but not much
Forgot my pen
Nice looking light but I can't find a deal on it anyway. Acebeam seems to force their prices always high. One of the reasons
I never bought one yet.
Zebralight has some models, that bring 500ish lumens from Eneloop: SC5w, SC5c. Sc5w says 3 min@550 lumens, then stepdown to 407 lumens, total of 30 min runtime.
I am tempted to get one of these though the price is steep.
That Sc5W is very tempting but that price is a little steep. Still, amazing they can get those lumens from one AA.
Ended up ordering the P20. Never had a Nichia before and specs say 5000K so I may like it hopefully.
Utorch UT01 is 800 lumens with a 14500 cell.
I have several, they are excellent!
light addict....yeah I've got the bug.

Nice light but the UT01 doesn't really look like a pen light.
Well, don't forget you can hold it like a pen

Sofirn SF13? 2×AA.
I got a couple to burn off an assload of AAs. Once my TK4A is done with them (and hopefully before any cells start taking a dump inside it), I’ll pull them and “pair” the cells to go into the ’13 (and oddballs go into my SP10). Once I pretty much get a 1-mode light (ie, all modes are about the same measly brightness), then the cells take turns going onto Bobofett II in nightlight-mode until even that doesn’t light up.
But, with new alkaleaks, and especially eneloops, the ’13 is nice’n‘bright.

Any smaller light with high output is going to get hot fast, that said Olight isx in my pocket and any one of many 18650 lights when I need big output for more than a minute or two.
Still a bit dim
Ordered two SF13's on Sep-9 but still not here yet. Specs show 420lms which seems bright enough for that type of light. I got many lonely AA eneloops waiting to be used.
I heard the acebeam pt10 gets real hot. Did not arrive at my door yet, but for the money, I'm thinking sofirn's SF02 may be the best all around penlight for the money. I really like my thorfire pf04 but many have said Sofirns SF02 is brighter and for just $9.00 it may be my number one Christmas gift choice for friends and family.
Yeah, with new cells it’s pretty bright. Burns down alkies nicely, ‘til it’s essentially a 1-mode light, then starts acting weird (flickering, slow-blink, etc.) which means it’s about time for real to ditch the cells. Then into Bobofett II they go.
I’m too busy burning down those alkies to try eneloops or the like.
Anyway, you should be happy with ‘em. I am.

I still have a boatload of slightly used costco kirkland AA"s so I'll let the sf13 abuse them all before replacing them with my shiny new eneloops.
I just bought a 2xAAA coast P4 and am also waiting for the 2xAAA led lenser i4 to get in stock soon.
