Making the Convoy c8 behave like the Astrolux?

Hi all.

In researching c8 flashlights, I’m attracted to the Astrolux version with the a6 driver which I’ve grown used to. the biggest factor to the Astrolux is the 1400 lm vs the 900 lm or so in the Convoy. The catch is that I can’t find the Astrolux in that super slick clear anodysing that Convoy offers.
That super slick clear c8 is where my heart is.

Please tell me if I’m wrong but it seems to me the only difference between the two is the the driver and nothing else.

If I buy a Convoy c8, can I swap out the driver and essentially have a clear annodized Astrolux c8…the look of the Convoy and the output of the Astrolux? will it share the same output as a stock Astrolux?

And finally. If I went the rout of building the c8 from a convoy host, would there be any other changes/ upgrades to recomend outside of matching the the Astrolux specs?

I want the biggest and baddest for this thrower. Bare in mind iv never built or modded a light, this will be my first. It will be a fun learning experiance at worst. I work with my hands and have soldered in the past so have good hopes of getting this done successfully.

Simple answer yes if you can solder. Order from Mountain Electronics and select BLF A6 firmware.

Thanks bud! I was just on there site and was scratching my head about all the cool options they have. I’ll probably keep it simple for now and stick with the blf a6 driver. I think ill pass up the spring bypass option and just diy it.

Be careful. The rabbit hole is deep.

It would be cheaper to buy the host, led and driver from Mountain and truly dyi it.

You will need snap ring pliers or sharp needle nose to remove and replace the driver retaining ring.
