Well here are my thoughts. I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks. Performs awesome. I really like the length of a 2 cell 18650 battery tube. 2 minor issues- there will be no neutral tint available per Wowtac. Not a huge deal, I’ll do it myself. 2nd, that great handleing battery tube is 1/4 (6.35mm) to 3/8 (9.525mm) too long. Flat tops are a no go, magnets help. But I’m sure Wowtac’s intent is for you to buy their batteries which will set you back another $30 if you buy the 3400 mah version. Now you have $70 invested into this light. If you are not a flashlight hoarder and you are looking for that one good light this one may not be the one. At $70 to $80 price point there are a lot of other options. A spring on the head instead of a direct contact button may have solved this issue all together. This is just my thoughs and OPINIONS. Just something to think about before you purchase. Overall I do recommend this light if you are prepared battery wise. I may buy another one just to make one in a neutral tint.
Maybe I’m missing something here, but it appears that the tube can be unscrewed at the head and that the driver has a small brass colored button on it. (saw this on A4 tear down on another BLF members review)
So, why can’t a small spring just be soldered on or another brass button soldered on and Boom! Problem solved for shorter cells?
Magnets, springs or spacers will work. To a lot of us it’s not a major issue. Just saying from a manufacturers point of view it is a tactical plan. Someone buys the light at a good price then (For those that can’t or don’t solder) , now you are spending 75% of the cost of the light in batteries. Just doesn’t seen like a spectacular deal for that person looking for that 1 light. You were not missing anything, just looking at the situation from every point of view. Like I said, just my OPINION. No harm meant.
Hi VOB!
I like the Wowtac lights just the shipping cost kills it to Hungary/Europe.
Can you ask them to sell it through Aliexpress, banggood or gearbest with a free shipping option possibility?
I like to buy this one and the headlamp from them multiple pieces.
No harm, no foul.
No, you are dead on right. Most people don’t want to mod a new flashlight just to use it. Or have to buy new/different cells to use it.
On the other side of the coin, can’t remember how many times members would throw a fit if a new flashlight could not accept a long protected cell (think Panasonic)
So, as they say in wood shop “it’s easier to cut short a few times rather than one big cut, kinda hard to add material back on:)
Later,
I see what your talking about. You sure can’t please everyone I guess.
I went ahead and ordered another one today just so I can change the emmiter to a warmer version. I contacted Wowtac and asked when they were going to release a neutral white and they responded quite quickly with ” We have no plans to produce this light in a neutral white”. Guess I will be purchasing a bare emmiter from Mountain Electronics and change the diode on the factory board. I would have thought they may make one in Neutral since the parent company Thrunite makes the Catapult in both NW & CW. I don’t concider myself a tint snob but I sure favor the neutrals over the cooler whites.
+1
I have been looking at their angle light for more than a year, but only on Amazon and ebay from USA.
NL has no Amazon, i don’t have a credit card to use on Amazon.de and nowhere on AliExpress or Banggood or Gearbest…
Shame.
