Guys I have an even better idea for this: How about we get a 4000-5000k LH351D R9050 BLF Q8 with updated firmware and better beryllium copper springs? That would be absolutely amazing!
Yep If you're going to do a reboot leave it as a BLF light ... if you want to improve it than do the upgrade with better tint/higher cri, better switch color / flash the upgraded software clean up the flats etc ...
The light is already crazy bright and no one is chasing lumens or added throw with this light anyway .
Cool white is a step in the wrong direction in my humble opinion .
I need a new tube. Would this extension tube works with the old BLF Q8?
Sofirn have been selling replacement battery tubes for the Q8 for at least a couple months now. Check here.

This is definitely the time to update the old BLF Q8 firmware (NarsilM v1.0). Plus it adds another selling point.

Think of all the people who didn’t buy the original Q8 due to them not offering it in cool white (the most popular color of all outside of BLF and CPF).

If Sofirn wants to change the firmware, it’s open-source and already available. I haven’t talked to Sofirn about it, but it’s definitely possible. NarsilM had some updates since then, and there are other compatible interfaces too.
I hate to admit it, but most people prefer cool white on first sight since it looks brighter in the air due to a high level of refraction.
Really? That’s an interesting theory. It doesn’t fit me or the people I know.
I have to agree with BlueSwordM, everyone thinks my CW lights are more impressive. I always hear that because they can see the beam more clearly it looks brighter. We know that isn’t the case, but I hear it from friends and family.
well, except a little lower price, 6500K is deal killer to me
i’m not quite interested, unless they move to other led (xp-l2 or sst40)
I’m not sure why they chose the emitter they did. If they want a cool white offering, changing the mcpcb to a 5×5 and using SST40 is a good choice. It’s the same color, but noticeably higher output. I think that would get more sales than xpl-hi.
Was lack of throw ever an issue with the Q8?
I guess they want to stick to the stock mcpcb?

Djozz, did Sofirn talk to you at all about the choices they’re making with this version? Did they explain why they are going with this particular emitter and tint?
Oh yeah, they better compensate you with something. At least a sample light. Being in charge of a Group Buy is a lot of work and it’s not fun. This is why I only help out on them, as opposed to being in charge of them. I hope things go smoothly for you.

No, they did not discuss anything, all this is their initiative. This emitter in their view is likely just chosen because it is different enough from the 3D XP-L to attract a new audiance. And all above suggestions for other changes to the Q8 involve more work: development, design, testing etc.
This one is easy for Sofirn and looking at the growing list above their choice pays off.
I hope that this goes smoothly too for me, as long as my involvement is maintaining the list, I’m alright
And I really hope that the ordering for the people on the list goes smooth too, but all the past gb’s learn that it is never so.

Unless you show them a 4000k 90CRI LED, they will mostly prefer cooler tinted LEDs.
Now, the best compromise would be 5700k R9080, but I have only seen the Luxeon MZ having this kind of pure white.

Thanks.
Darn it. I was perfectly fine with what I had. Til this thread showed up. Interested in 1, Amazon, US.
Would prefer a host as I have enough drivers and emitters to last a lifetime. How about it Sofirn? Your C8F host is very popular around here.
CW only in a custom BLF light is sad.

Hmmm. With all these CW lovers, is there anyone who wants to buy a Q8 MCPCB with four CW XP-L HI to retrofit an old BLF Q8?
If so I’m in four one new Sofirn Q8 from Amazon
Back up, aren’t you forgetting the actual Q8 that’s been out a year or so?
It is a NW only light that is sad. Now we at least have two color choices. That’s a good thing.
I only wish it was the HD version emitter they were using. I guess they think offering the HI version will sell more than the HD. IDK.
