Some advice needed for a newbie - 18650's

Hello,

I have always loved torches, started when I was young and got a bunch of Maglights. A few years ago I got a Fenix L2T and its been a great torch. I needed a decent torch to go along with my L2T for cycling so I purchased an UltraFire C8 XM-L 3 mode from Manafont.

Anyway, I just received my batteries + charger from DinoDirect (9 days delivery to the UK, very pleased!) and was thinking I should post on this great forum.

I have been reading so much info about these 18650 batteries + torches and all the info has fragmented in my brain.

I would like to know if the info I think is correct is actually correct, if not please correct me.

1. The batteries I bought are the Trustfire flames 2400mah protected. Since they are protected they will shut off in the flashlight when they require charging. I will never leave them to charge when i'm not watching them, that should be fine due to them not having memory.

2. Never overcharge the batteries. I will put the charger on my desk so I can see when they are charged and imediatly disconect and test with my multimeter to make sure they have not exceeded 3.7v......What do i do if it is above the stated 3.7v for what ever reason?

Is there anything else I should know? I feel like i'm jumping into a sea of information that is going to spend all my money :)

Edit: I just tested the batteries with my voltmeter and it says they are both sitting at 3.92v. Isn't that above what they should be?

They should be at or under 4.2V when fully charged

Ok thanks, why do they say 3.7v on the side?

That is the nominal voltage. A typical value is given since the voltage is dropping from 4.2 to 2.75.

So it's just a given rating. Think about it this way: 4.2(charged)+3 (depleted)= 7.2 So that's averaging 3.6V

Ok thanks very much. So I should make sure to charge them to 4.2v (I will check my charger cuts off at 4.2v before my torch comes)
