(Solved) Astrolux MF02 Issue

Hi.

I have a faulty Astrolux MF02 with the following issue:

The 3/4 of the led are always on, even when I turn it off and use the lock function.
At the beginning it was as dim as shown bellow, but now it is like half the low mode.

The other 1/4 won’t turn on while operating the flashlight.

I want to locate the cause of the issue.

Any help will be appreciated.

As the MF02 is using a XHP35 LED:

The emitter is damaged. Probalby a short on one of the 4 internal LED dies.

If it is a led only issue, why it does not turn off?

Oh, I overread that.

So it turns on and works well otherwise?

Because then I would suspect some creepage current. Not sure why, but for example, my modded Skilhunt H03 also does that.

When on:
I can change modes but only the 3/4 of the led are active.

When off or locked:
The 3/4 remain on, at ~half the low mod brightness.

Someone help please.

LED has one die not outputting light its usually electrical still OK

if the driver does not shut down 100% one of the 4 boost regulators is faulty

solution get replacement head for the light

There might be some modders like me interested in just the dead head for mods

Hi Lexel and thanks for your helpful reply.

I am able to modify it myself, else I would happily pass it to you.

I will open the bezel, reflow a new led and I will also try to fix the driver.

When my budget allows it, I’ll contact you to order a driver with narsilM and upgrade it.
I’ll keep this as a backup, if I manage to fix it.

Can you, please, show me where the the four boost regulators are located in the bellow picture?

Finally, in your MF02 review you mentioned the way you removed the bezel.

I used two pieces of wood to protect the coating and I tightened the lower part of the head in a bench vice.
The one side on the tripod screw and the other on the switch area.

Then I gradually heated the bezel till it reached 80-90°C and tried to unscrew it using a grippy piece of fabric, without success.

What tool did you use to unscrew the bezel?

Can someone reply to my previous post regarding where the 4 boost regulators are located and what components I have to replace?

Is it the four SS34 Schottky diodes?

After getting no reply, I decided to continue on my own.

Here is my progress, for anyone interested:

I managed to unscrew the stainless steel bezel using a oil filter wrench, after heating it at ~90°C.

The driver issue is most probably due to the burnt 1/4 of the LED.
Now it needs 25% less volts to turn on and that’s why it remains on.
So the chances are that the driver itself is fine.
I will update when the replacement LED arrives.

PS: I have allready received a replacement head from BG.

Today I received the XHP35HI 6500K.

I reflowed it and the flashlight is like new.

It was the LED only, the driver is fine.

I had also ordered a battery tube and now I have two MF02, one NW and one CW. :sunglasses:

I did not know that Banggood began to offer two MF02 heads for the price of one. So after all it was luck that the led was faulty. My compliments for the professional opening of the flashlight. I tried with bare hands, no chance :disappointed:

 Thanks. I also tried with bare hands but it was impossible to unscrew it, even when I heated it.
