Just a note for buyer beware: I ordered 10 of these knives:

and 4 of these:

Exduct has been good to me in the past and these are no doubt excellent knives. The issue with Canada Border Services is they can centrifugally open these knives making them prohibited for importation. I have confirmed this with a border agent who demonstrated this to me. Interestingly 6 of the 14 knives I ordered came through… the blades sit nice and tight in the knife… so either they come loose in shipping or the manufacturer is not tighting the blade enough… very likely Enlan’s fault here.

My options were to Appeal, Abandon or Export… the only reasonable thing to do expense wise –abandon… with shipping I lost $170 bucks here!

(EDIT) -UNDER APPEAL

Fool me once -shame on you… fool me twice -shame on me…

Buyer beware…

Same in the UK - no assisted opener is going to be allowed in. Fortunately I only lost one knife that way.

Funny thing is... it is not in the assisted open category...like a switch blade

You must under normal circumstances –manually open the blade with your finger or using the blade post -and that is OK… Customs says you just can’t “flick” it open…something obviously that can be done with these knives with the blade not being sufficiently tight.

Is it the kind of thing where the end user can easily tighten the knife or is it something that the manufacturer would have to do.
If it is the former, can’t you just appeal and demonstrate by tightening the knife? Or are these fees involved for appealing?

You could always 'export' them to my house.....

Sorry for what seems like an arbitrary 'grab' on their part.

I was concerned when I bought my enlan knives but they made it to Canada no problem..Ontario also..this sucks..won't be ordering any more I guess..which is dumb because they sell spring assisted flippers in my city lol and these are illegal..

It's strange, because why do they care if you can flick it open or not? I don't want to give them any ideas, but aren't fixed blades legal? All you have to do is take it out of its sheath , no flick , switch, nothin'. While you're at it, ban steak knives as well. They're sharp.

I didn't write the laws. The moral panic about "knife crime" here defies belief. Merely being in possession of an assisted opening blade here could get you five years in prison. If you use it, add five years to the sentence.

All this while the drug gangs shoot each other with machine guns which have never, ever been legal here. Handguns are completely and utterly illegal as in many years in jail for even thinking about owning one. Firearm ownership (even a shotgun) is extremely difficult and expensive.

And don't get me started on the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

Franz Kafka wrote the rules on that one.

I was thinking about getting a EL-01. Maybe Exduct can make sure they're tight?

It seem ridiculously arbitrary that some of the knives got through and some didn't. They're all the same freaking knife!

EL-01's count as flick-knives here and don't get in. At all..

:(

No problem for me so far, does that mean they are illegal to even own tho? Obviously I don't EDC them.

wow, sorry to hear that.

the primary reason I like axis lock knives is because they can be centrifugally opened (ie, w/o touching the blade) - and I like that mostly for convenience, but also self defense.

If you are planning to attack someone, does it matter how quickly you can open your knife?

Even if it did, you probably don't care much about the legality of the knife...

I"ll never understand why people that agree with these regulations do so. I suppose it is with the hope of increased safety - when really the point is to keep people feeling unsafe, and reliant on the government.

Ask them to use the same glue that the Uniquefire HS-801 is glued with.

I have no knowledge of Canadian knife laws, but I assume that's actually the point. Many gun laws in the US are intentionally vague and written in a way that may not only confuse your Average Joe but in many cases also those in law enforcement. I know of one agency that has officers sign (not initial) a training bulletin that clarifies one of these issues in very explicit terms because, at one time, one could have got the impression that the statue was being deliberately misinterpreted by some. Well, yeah, civil rights violations are expensive.

I lost a CRKT Anubis under the same circumstances. More specifically, the issue is that if a knife can be swung open too easily, it is classed as a 'gravity knife', whether it was designed as such or not.

I contacted Customs, made the argument (politely) that the knife had thumb-studs, and so was obviously designed to require you to push it open, and suggested that the pivot screw may have just come loose in transit. Can't remember now, but at the time I had lots of other subtle and reasonable points I raised, but none of it made any difference (such as, "how can you have a fair and consistent test, of different people might swing the knife with different levels of force?") Basically, however the knife is when it is removed from the packaging, that is how it will be tested.

Thats too bad I own the Enlan EL-01A it is one of my favorite knives. I don't think I can carry it because of blade length the law is a bit unclear here, but what knife you have around the house should be your own business what you can EDC Should not prohibit import. I thought you could even legally carry a sword in Canada as long as it is in full view. I think governments world wide are over reaching we need a world wide knife rights organization to promote legal knife use and carry by law abiding citizens.

Wow thats too bad, Im in Ontario too.

Your name is flagged and all future packages will be inspected now.

Maybe it was inspected due to being a large $ order? Enlan EL-01 is my favorite knife too, Im lucky mine have made it through okay.

Does this mean us Canadians risk seizure with any axis lock knife? That would be a real bummer.

everyone likes the EL-01

Even the O.P.P.

I hope mine isn't taken.
