Re: Solarforce Flashlights

Hey guys, Do any still use Solarforce Flashlights these days? With so many high power outputs, throwers can SF compete? I am looking to a few for nostalgia purposes because I came on board late to collecting.

BTW, I am not doubting quality but rather up to date technology and output level compared to present LED lights.

Solarforce is still around, they keep selling from their own online store or via indirect channels (ie sellers on ebay or otherwise). The quality of SF is very high, as expected. But we haven’t seen any flashlight innovation from them lately. There has also been an ongoing sale from their store during the last 6-12 months. I know they have a good following in the airsoft world.

Performance wise you can easily build a 3 amp drop-in and be happy with it, most use cases wouldn’t need a lot more light than that. the P60 reflector design has decent throw as well.

I am still using L2 / L2P / L2T (I have a bunch of them) with old KD 3-mode XM-L dropins or XP-G one-mode dropins. I’ve thought about getting a few more but I haven’t found any interesting dropins (like a XHP-35 Hi at 2000 lumens or a XHP70.2 at 3000 lumens).

Thanks for input guys. I am thinking of trying out some of their lights. Yes, a little dated compared to today technology. But the P60 concept is very nice for customization.

Yeah, that would be great!

I have a few and lego-ed them with Surefires.
The best thing from P60 concept is that we can build our own drop-in with desired outputs :+1:

I also started in this hobby when Solarforce were still big. In fact, it was Foy with all his Solarforce reviews that hooked me  My Solarforce collection consists of: 2 x L2P, M6, M8, MPP-1, and another MPP-1 converted to 3 x XML2. I love the brand and the quality, but it is sad to not see them compete for the hobbyist anymore.

I love my Solarforce lights. Next to my recent Acebeams, they are the most used.

I have and still use my L2, L2T, L2P, and L2M on a regular basis. They’re bulletproof and easily upgradable. Love them.

ah yeah, the Foy reviews were really good. What happened to Foy? And all the others who were active back then? I keep finding their reviews but they are all offline.

Hi, I have a couple mounted on rifles for night huntigh. They all perform very well.

Thanks for feedback guys. I am going to pick up a few just to have in collection. Keep posting pictures or information to thread.

All of mine except for the L2T have reverse clicky tail cap switches. That said, I have a single mode XM-L drop-in installed because I found it a pain to switch modes once you latched the forward clicky switch. Sometimes it would go to the next mode. What a pain!. My understanding is all the new L2’s come with forward clicky switches.

L2T with Nichia 219C 90CRI is my worklight.

Love SolarForces. Such great quality hosts not to mention rugged. I made a 3 mode 219A dropin in 2012 that lives in an L2T. Both have served me flawlessly, and that tint is mint.

I just bought the S.S. L2T and the ano version, cheap, they are having a big sale at their online site

Edit: Just went to double check that sale and it’s still on and even better than when I was there last, looks like I need the L2P as well, S.F. Sale
The big scores on the high dollar lights, that’s the biggest mark downs I noticed, I plan on getting a C-M adapter for the S.S. L2T and a Cyros head for it, I think that’s the right adapter.

Edit 2: wow, now this looks like a sweet deal, L2T body with M3 or M3S head for $31.99 L2T with M3 head…? wow

Deals are good. But does SF stack up as compared to other lights in category? I like the P60 concept though.

SolarForce is still my #1 go to light. Pflexpro 3.8 amp dropin is the very best. I’ve probably got 6 or more P60’s around the house and garage. 2 extra for work alone. Rip one up across a parking lot and for less than $20 rehost as a new light. My 2 top light picks would be; Solarforce P60’s and (Astrolux S1, S41, S41S, short tube, long tube etc.) I like to mix and match my lights for the mission at hand.

Well great question, I’m new to these myself but I wanted to look into the P60’s being I was sort of bored with the same old lights and I wanted something I could change easily to suit my mood I guess I could say and my mood at that time came up with something that would look like this,

Or something like this rare Seraph in Ti which has been heat treated and of course the L2T with the Cyros head slightly different. Talked to the marker of those Seraphs in HK over the weekend, also very informative.

I love copper and I like stainless so off I went to find out what a L2T was and now I have way to much info, how do these compare well I think these solarforce lights are in a group of their own, they are apparently somewhat of a clone or started out as a clone of the Surefire brand and the two brands can interchange along with a ton of aftermarket brands like that Cyro’s Cu head in that picture, believe me it can get complicated for real, there are so many different ways to put these lights together I was literally dumb founded by all there was available and I’ve talked to a lot of owners of machine shops that make like that head Cyros and he explained a lot to me about different adapters like what does 6P or 9P mean, or all the different adapters, basically this is the other groups kind of lights, expensive, CPF. That Cu head is $92.
I don’t think a person would go wrong at all buying any of these Solarforce lights,
Really there’s old timers up a just a few posts that are saying that much and that they’ve had their lights since 2012 and it hasn’t missed a lick, I have lights that are less than two years old and have missed all sorts of licks, new drivers, new LEDs what have you, here you can just build a new drop-in or buy one and if you need body parts well they are cheap enough and HAIII from what they say so it looks like they hold up darn well, I’d say go for it especially with them on sale like they are, can’t loose that much.
Below are a few other ideas, but it can get deep in a hurry but that’s up my alley, if I’m in I’m all in, so I bought a number of these SF lights the other day and then after my first post here and going back and checking on that sale I bought a bunch more so I shall see what happens…
Seraph P60 cheap in HK but reputable as well.

Yeah, SF has its own class. I really like the SS version, deal with 2LP with dropin combo, and M3 head combo. The other lights are cool too. BUT with many companies to choose from with much higher outputs, throw, etc…. Would rather use to buy those ones instead. The 3 I mentioned are the ones I am buying.

I own some mega throwers blf gt, thrunite v6, etc…. I just want to add some SF to collection.

I own 1 flashlight from every flashlight maker. minus surefire, pelican, streamlight.
