I just got my prototype GT micro in yesterday and I have to say, I like it. A nice little pocket thrower.
The throw ratings they gave are spot on what I got, I got 52kcd and 457m of throw on my sample.
Although the lumens are a bit lower, I got 900 lumens dropping to ~800. They are using VERY thin LED wires right now though and the tailcap springs could be a bit lower resistance.
I told them to use 24awg wire on the LED, that should bump the output up some so it could be rated at 850-900 lumens (technically it could now but that is not how I do things).
The thermals are surprisingly good as well, Took quite some time for it to heat up enough to thermal throttle and by that point the cell was at the point of LVP, so not sure which one it was that caused it to step down but think it might of been the LVP.
I have to say, it looks pretty good for a prototype.
I am not sure, after china new year for sure. So at least another month, most likely a bit longer then that.
Also, not sure if it was mentioned before but the driver in this light was designed by Schoki, it just uses the TA design. He was going to make a really really cool boost / FET combo driver for this light that would of worked with both AA / 14500 but time constraints prevented that from happening in time so we had to revert to a 14500 only driver.
Hmm, maybe for a rev2 Schoki’s driver is ready then, it is still a holy grail for flashaholics.
After a quick calculation, 52 kcd with a XP-L Hi makes perfect sense, and from my mods sofar with the 1mm2 White Flat (so without cutting edge driving and focusing) I reckon 100 kcd will be achieved.

Wow, old thread. Interesting though. If you work out a way to get 100K out of this light, I’m extremely interested. No need for the V2 driver, I’ll only be running 14500’s.
Dangit, you’ve triggered my addiction again. My girlfriend is giggling hard. And whapping me up-side the head. As usual.
Larry, isn’t it a thing that you have to buy one new light for every whack in the head? Your girlfriend really wants you to have a large flashlight concussion collection…

I keep telling her this. For some reason, she just doesn’t quite understand. She (and my friends) do love borrowing my lights though. Someday I’ll get them all together for a family pic (the lights, that is). That would be kinda frightening even for me though. Been buying customs since long before Mr Bulk on That Other Website. I EDC’d a LionHeart for years. Still have several of them, in fact.
Bah.
This place is so dangerous to my wallet. But awesome for my addiction. We all have to have our therbligs. And I so love tinkering. I do have a small lathe and metal shop, but I can’t do everything that happens here.
The lights that get created on this site are simply amazing. There are a metric Shut Ton of incredibly smart people getting together to make amazing creations. I heartily thank all of you for your time and effort. If I ever get the opportunity to pay for your bar tab, just let me know. It’s the least I can do. Anytime, Anywhere.
Anyway. Between this, the GT70, The BLF lantern, FW3A, GT Everything, I’m hooked. As usual. Keep feeding my addiction, I love it. And, as trouble goes, it’s pretty harmless. Except to my wallet.
Whatever .
Her standard joke is “are you getting another light?”. Why yes, I am. Sooooooooooo?
It starts off a bit under 4A and drops to around 3.4A, showing that the cell is responsible for the initial lumen drop, not the light. There may be better cells out now that would not voltage sag as bad.

Btw what 14500 you used for testing? Just asking because i just have 2A protected and ~3A unprotected… so i need to buy some better ones.
I am using some 600ma cells I got from mtn some time back. Windyfire or something like that? They were reviewed pretty well at the time and I have never had a need for anything better. I only owned 1 14500 light before this anyways.
The cells you have should be ok I would think since higher resistance cells will not pull as much power.
my nitecore 650 mAh (black yellow) make 3,9A on the GT micro (and 3,8A on a BLF X5) my shockli 660 mAh (yellow) make 4.95A on the GT micro (and 4.1A on a BLF X5)
unfortunately i fried something (i think a 7135) when using big wires in the head from my bench power supply
the led ia always on (230mA) , but ramps up to high (~2A) above that and also jumps to turbo.
@TA: do you have an idea what i did blow?

The Windyfire are good mid-high current cells (for their size) according to HKJ tests. They have a discharge curve almost exactly like Efest Purple 650mAh cells which are known around here for being good cells. The new high capacity Vapcell 1000mAh cells lag a lot more (but last longer at the end).

If the higher modes work fine then your first guess sounds good to me, the 7135 fried. This can happen as the ripple from the power supply combined with the long leads can lead to massive voltage ringing. The first thing to go is usually the 7135.
Not totally sure, they have not exactly been giving me regular updates.
The prototype they sent me looks pretty much ready for production though save for the wire change. So I am guessing that production will be started after CNY.

Hello which 14500, 3.7V Li ion cell is best suited GT micro feeler, how much mA is good ?
I am going to use THESE, by Windyfire …. because I have them. But mostly because they are great cells. They come flattop or button top… I have some of both.
. Windyfire 14500 IMR 600mAh – Flat Top
Unprotected, flat top. This is one of the best “high drain” 14500 cells available, outperforming even the venerable AW and Efest 14500 cells—check out the discharge comparison picture!
Read HKJ’s review of the cell.
Diameter:14mm
Height: 49.1mm
Manufacturer Cell Specifications:
Nominal Capacity: 650mAh (0.2C discharge)
Charging Termination Voltage: 4.2v
Maximum Continuous Discharge: 6.5A
Maximum Pulse Discharge: 9.75A
Recommended Charge Current: 0.5A or 0.25A
Maximum Charge Current: 1A
Recommended Discharge Termination: 3v
