There was no way to get a guaranteed tint bin for this size of order so none were ever ordered.

My springs arrived today!
From the left: big silver, small silver, small nickel (don’t have big nickel to compare, sorry), L4P, Intl-outdoor, standard convoy switch spring

I don’t recommend soldering springs with hotair. The effect on the third photo.

Thanks Blue! Beer

how did you use the hotair, pointing directly to the springs?

Ah that’s the problem. What’s the temperature you soldered the springs at?

That’s some silver tarnish if I’ve ever seen some.

Yes. I usually do this and never have any problems.

Try lowering the temp a bit to 300-320C to see if some silver tarnish forms again.

Otherwise, just use a swab of alcohol to clean the top of the spring.

I’d like 70 large and 30 small springs, if it isn’t too late.

@JackJax, they are still available, yes.

@Rusty, Chatika, g_damian, how come your orders are arriving so quickly? I mean, I shipped almost all orders springs+3500k LED orders Tuesday and Wednesday last week, and you guys in Europe already have them?

That’s faster than express shipping in some cases in Canada.

@Chatika, do you have some vinegar? Acetic acid can dissolve silver patine. I’ve tried it before, and it actually worked well.

Wish I could tell you; post date was marked as 14/03 iirc and they arrived 18/03, pretty darned good in my opinion and reflects well on you, Canada post and Royal Mail.

I just wish some of our other sources could deal with things as efficiently…………….BG/GB etc.

Here is a test of the LH351D from DigiKey that I ordered. I put it in a BLF A6 to test, all measurements taken from hotspot. LH351D has a fairly even beam and this one is no exception.

Bare LED MID power
CCT = 3281K (Duv -0.0041)
Color Rendering Index (Ra) = 93.6 [ R9 = 77.8 ]
R1 = 95.5 R2 = 95.3 R3 = 93.2 R4 = 92.7 R5 = 94.9 R6 = 93.5 R7 = 93.0 R8 = 90.2 R9 = 77.8 R10 = 88.3 R11 = 93.9 R12 = 87.7 R13 = 95.2 R14 = 95.8

BLF A6 reflector LOW power
CCT = 3182K (Duv 0.0036)
Color Rendering Index (Ra) = 93.7 [ R9 = 72.0 ]
R1 = 93.7 R2 = 94.4 R3 = 94.4 R4 = 95.4 R5 = 93.1 R6 = 92.9 R7 = 96.7 R8 = 89.4 R9 = 72.0 R10 = 86.6 R11 = 95.9 R12 = 81.3 R13 = 93.4 R14 = 96.5

BLF A6 reflector MID power
CCT = 3285K (Duv 0.0030)
Color Rendering Index (Ra) = 91.8 [ R9 = 66.2 ]
R1 = 91.8 R2 = 92.7 R3 = 92.9 R4 = 93.4 R5 = 91.3 R6 = 90.5 R7 = 94.6 R8 = 87.0 R9 = 66.2 R10 = 82.9 R11 = 94.1 R12 = 80.7 R13 = 91.4 R14 = 95.7

BLF A6 reflector HIGH power
CCT = 3247K (Duv 0.0013)
Color Rendering Index (Ra) = 91.3 [ R9 = 62.7 ]
R1 = 91.4 R2 = 92.9 R3 = 93.6 R4 = 92.4 R5 = 90.9 R6 = 90.7 R7 = 93.6 R8 = 85.1 R9 = 62.7 R10 = 83.2 R11 = 92.9 R12 = 81.2 R13 = 91.2 R14 = 96.1

Woah. That is some serious low BBL light being emitted, but then gets destroyed once in the A6.

That’s just the middle of the bare LED. At 45 degrees it’s much closer to BBL.

Here’s my attempt at a lightly frosted TIR (mid power):

CCT = 3041K (Duv 0.0019)
Color Rendering Index (Ra) = 95.1 [ R9 = 77.4 ]
R1 = 95.6 R2 = 95.9 R3 = 95.0 R4 = 96.6 R5 = 95.1 R6 = 95.0 R7 = 96.7 R8 = 91.2 R9 = 77.4 R10 = 89.9 R11 = 97.4 R12 = 85.0 R13 = 95.4 R14 = 96.7

I just sat it on top of the MCPCB and eyeballed the centering so YMMV. It’s some 20mm Carclo single, probably 10194, narrow frosted.

I’m not a huge fan of 3000K tints but i’m hopeful this will work nicely when mixed with a 5000K to bring it slightly closer to the CCT and Duv I prefer.

It is curious how the CRI increased so much in that last test with the frosted TIR. I may have to swap the A6 glass lens and see if that or the TIR is causing such a difference. My test of C8 AR lens did not effect tint in any meaningful way but maybe this one is different.

The way an LED looks in a reflector or optic can be wildly different from what you measure in the centre of the beam from a bare LED. I measured one of those famously awful XP-L2 EasyWhites from the original SC64c as Duv -0.0050, gradually getting greener and greener with increasing angle. Stick the same LED in a floody optic and it’s suddenly Duv 0.0046, and even worse in a reflector.

Pretty much all the domed emitters when measured bare behave this way where the 0° angle may look ok but it gets progressively worse when the angle moves towards the side of the LED. In the reflector (especially with orange peel or better yet, diffused) it just gets averaged pretty much like in an integrating sphere.

I have no idea. Package with previous nickel plated springs was delivered after ~2 weeks.

SST-20 3500K from this GB are awesome. The beam is great. I measured output (ceiling bounce app) and it’s higher than 219b sw40 by 25% @2.8A.

Are the springs still available? I think I’d like to get a bunch – 10 of each Smile MF01 will need new springs for a Lexel driver, plus spares for anything else I decide to hotrod.

Yes, The tint of the hotspot of a reflector I found is roughly what you measure at 60 degrees on the bare led. You need to start well below the BBL to keep a reflector hotspot below the BBL.

When my neighbour visited me today in hospital he brought me your springs. Nice ones! And i agree with you. Next time go for 1 more coil on the big one.
Can not wait to solder some new springs in my Q8. And there are some more lights waiting for some shiny coiled metal Big Smile
