[FIXED 2019-02-09] Google Ads on BLF Larger than Ever?

sb56637 edit: Please see this post for an update: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/54484/22

The size of Google Ads on BLF is new to me:

May be related: some days ago I noticed that adblock on my phone stopped working on BLF… (on PC I use request policy, do I don’t have the issue).

Hmmm, that’s weird. I haven’t changed anything in the Google Adsense configuration for a while now. But maybe Google did. Technically, the Google ads come directly from Google’s servers, using their own code that gets loaded separately, so they could technically make a change that would make an ad blocker no longer recognize their ads. But the size shouldn’t change. For what it’s worth, this is what I’m seeing. (For some reason, it’s repeated, and in the wrong language, and not at all relevant):

Totally inconceivable, google adds are now larger than your signature.

No ads here. not even racoon or kershaw pics… all trash filtered

"If there's anything larger than my signature around, I want it caught and shot now."

There, I ruined another Douglas Adams joke.

Not seeing any ads here.

The only thing I’m seeing is your giant signature, raccoon city.

EDIT: Nevermind, I fixed it.

Thank you so much. Never realized I could censor filter out such grandiose dribble. :+1:

Thanks for the idea… :+1:

Same here.

I think you shot your pinky.

Google's really getting their money's worth...

Look at all this text:

@raccoon city: That is a bit excessive… First time I’ve seen that. I wouldn’t use that ad banner size if I knew it could inflate that much, but the problem is that everyone gets different ads based on their interests, so it’s hard to know what others are seeing.

The good thing about Google Ads is that it's frequently something different.

They rarely advertise anything I'm interested in, but I'm glad they sponsor the site.

Google seems to be very good at throwing ads at me for stuff I have already bought.

Good idea. The white space didn’t collapse, but at least there’s nothing annoying now.

Here's an ad I actually like, though it kinda looks like false advertising:

I mean, where are the bikinis?

Nothing beats Amazon, though. You could buy a sausage-stuffing machine, and then be inundated with ads or whatever listing the 47 other types of sausage-stuffing machines they carry.

What?, like having one is never enough?

But yeah, Goggle’s ads are pretty much rehashes of what I may’ve looked at at GB or wherever. They probably grab any’n’all browser history or just plain track you like one of those cows with one of those RFID thingies stapled to their ears.

Kinda creepy.

Ha! :person_facepalming:
