Another EastWard on DX, this time YJ J08

Again anounced as XPG but is XPE (easy look the emitter)

CR123A/16340 style.... 75mm long, 20mm wide (small..)

Metal switch button....

Good looking, more or less good price.... but... why not xp-g real?

Well... EastWard is copying the desings of itp?

the J609 is similar to the A2 eos.

The J08 is identical to the A1 eos.

Now we will see the copycat of the A3 eos??????? Please eastward please!!!!!!!!!

There's only so many ways you can make a flashlight. It's an aluminum tube with an emitter and a switch. 1xAA 1x16340. I'm pretty sure ITP didn't come up with these.

XP-G is only marginally worth it; I'd prefer it if they could just make whatever emitter they use properly centered unlike the one in the photo.

Looks nice ... Hate the modes ... Wont buy it ... To much for a mod host !

Anyone got it and can tell if its a XP-E as pictured or a XP-G as adverticed?

Those types of specs are almost never accurate, but pics are. If there's been some kind of change since the pic was taken, it's almost always for the worse, so you should be asking whether it comes with a xp-c now...:)

Yes unfortunately. I better get the R5-A3, though I like the look of the eastward much better.

My copy of the J08 appears to be an XPG, although I'm no expert. I compared it to my Mini 123 and the LED appears to be the same.

Pro: I love the clicky it has. It's very positive and not too stiff. It claims to accept 4.2 volt cells and so I ran it on an AW IMR and it was insanely bright. After a few days the modes stopped working and it only runs on high now. It also got quite warm on 4.2 volt cells. After I noticed that the othe modes were not working I switched to AW LiFePO4 cells and it is a little less bright, but much cooler. I didn't mind losing the other modes because they were a little annoying. I edc this thing to work and the single high mode is perfect for my purpose.

I don't see the similarity between the JO8 and the iTP A1 that is mentioned above. The J08 is 15mm (25%) longer than the A1 and has a clicky. The A1 is a twisty. The J08 is more similar to the Quark 123, which is only ~3mm longer and also has a clicky. The biggest difference between the Q123 and the J08 is that the Q123 has a separate tail cap and has a bit better build quality.

I think it looks very interesting i want to know if it feels good in your hand ,does it have enough bite >i really like the AA 4 mode light ..and i love my nitecore ex10 which is the same size light as the jo8. The ex is so good I keep backing away from this light .. i need a neighbor to buy one so i can play with it for a bit ..

I would give it 7 or 8 out of 10 for fit and finish. The knurling could be sharper. I've never dropped it, but I would prefer more/heavier/sharper knurling. The clip, while removable, is quite firmly attached. From a 'feel in the hand' perspective, what I really like about the J08 is the switch. It's a bootless, metal button reverse clicky with a nice positive feel to it. It is stiff and crisp enough without making you really work to use it, like some do.

i saw somewhere else .. that shall remain nameless... that someone had moded it with an xml and thought huh that sounds like it might be a little interesting .. the feel on the nitecore is just outstanding in my opinion but my second or third favorite light remains the eastward that everyone loves to hate ..the J-09..4 mode ....maybe for the same reason it has a great feel to it and is very small for a AA light ..the only thing i'd change it the depth of the button on the AA..sounds like the same button it is a great switch .... the closest thing to it is the BLF mr lite light .. or the cnquality n lights with the electronic switch ... ..Does it rattle too ?

if the TINT was as nice as the j-09 i wouldn't mod it ..i am beginning to understand peoples love for cr 123 lights , small with a lot of pop ..lots of bang for your buck ..

maybe it's time to just break down and pull the trigger

An xm-l would give it more flood but it couldn't be run hard 'cause the light just doesn't have the mass to sink the heat. I have often been tempted by the nitcore's, especially the 123 models. I think I'll probably get one or two at some point. Yes, the switch does rattle, but I never noticed until I tested it just now.

To my eyes the tint of my J08 is very neutral. I'm not fond of warm lights and I can tolerate quite a cool white, so my idea of neutral may not be the same as others.

I do like 123 lights, especially the 4.2 volt variety, because just as you say, the output/size ratio is very high. For the same reason I'm fond of CR2 lights, but their smaller cells require more care to avoid over discharging them.

Sorry to pull this one back up, but I have a question about the tail switch. I've been looking for a CR123/16340 based EDC, under 80mm, with a tail clicky. I really like the looks of this one, but have reservations about a metal button/switch. Can I assume there's no o-ring preventing moisture/water from entering? I don't see the item description mentioning waterproof, so I assume the answer is no.

I just did the "blow-test" on the Eastward YJ J09. No air escaped the tube. Not comletely sure about a full "dunk-test", but at least rain shouldn't be a problem.

I have no idea looks sort of like the eastward with a clicky sticking way out.. sort of the reverse of eastward deeply buried AA version . hard to tell about the knurling .. i like the feel of the eastwards.. this is cheap enough .. just wondering if it's just a bad designed light

I've had that one in my cart/wish list for a couple of days now. Been mulling over whether I should add it to the (ever expanding) order. Sure would like some more information, but I haven't seen any other guinea pigs volunteers post a review. I think I'll just pull the trigger and add it along with the Eastward YJ J08. Worst case scenario, it becomes the wife's new EDC.

You are a good human ...i'm interested in both ..maybe you'd like to send them here first so i can play with them .. in a parallel universe I bought them both too .. just having trouble with my access code ..dang wormholes ..:p
