"Salut" from France :)

Hello everyone,

I’m Jérémy from south-west of France, and i was looking for good flashlights not too expensive, and i found this perfect “little” forum !

So as a French, i’m not very good in other languages, even if i appriciate english i can do some mistakes, so i apologie from advance !

I decide to create this account to ask suggestions for my new flashlight of course, and to thank the team of this forum so : THANK YOU !

I’m 35 f*in’ years old :person_facepalming: and i love photographie and music, i’m a volounteer in a “big” festival called Musicalarue and i’m in charge of the “festival security”, even if we enploy a professionnal security service (~15k ppl per night !) we have to check on the outside of the festival if someone don’t try to enter without paying or hurt someone or get drunk or … many things that you cannot imagine !!!

So there is often no or few light, so i use since 2 years now somes Cree XPE-Q5 that i give to my security partners, but i’m looking now for a better longlife and stronger flashlight.

I’m ready to put like ~ 60$/50€ for mine, and maybe 10€ for my partners.

  • For me : not to big (max SP36 like size), zoomable if possible, USB chargeable, clipable when not used or additional holster.
  • For partners : is Convoy S2 are REALLY better than cheapest Cree XPE-Q5

So … let me here your opinions and see you soon !

Jérémy

I hope you enjoy your stay, jt40!

Hi and welcome jt40. Sounds like an interesting job you have.

Howdy and welcome from texas

Welcome to BLF fellow compatriot.

The two lights you quote are pretty good for your budget.

For your kind of use the Sorfin sp 36 is a nice choice in my opinion, nice output, nice autonomy, not too heavy, 440g with batteries and the usb built in charger is handy and will reduce the cost, you won't need to buy a dedicate charger if you don't already own one.

But no pocket clip and not zoomable, you'll need to spend a few extra dollars on a decent holster.

If you are on a tight budget and for the 50 euros range it will be hard to bit, 40/45$ for the light and 18/20$ for a pack of four samsung 30Q button top. ( with the right coupon code for both )

You'll be amaze by the Sp36 if you are used to your Cree XPE-Q5.

For you partner the convoy s2+ would really be a nice upgrade over the Cree XPE-Q5, more efficient, better output, more autonomy with a 18650 and you could spare one of your 4 Samsung 30Q.

But your partner will need a charger if you choose the S2+, if he don't already own one you can always add a cheap one slot from liitokala or zanflare around 4$.

12/14$ for the S2 + and 4$ for an optional charger. ( with coupon )

If the charger is a problem for your partner and you really don't wish to spend more than 10 euros for him, there is other options like the zanflare F1 ( 13$/18650 battery ) with built in usb charger, or the Utorch UT01 (15$) to stick to AA batteries.

Personally I'll stick to the convoy S2+ it will be a nicer/better present than the other 2 for a minor extra cost.

Hello jt40, welcome to blf.

I think the sp36 is a little too big/heavy for personal carry.

The S2 is a great light. (many emitter choices available)

You should also consider a ‘medium thrower’ to be able to see further away.
The Convoy C8+ xpl hi and biscotti driver is a great choice in this category.

Welcome jt40! Soyez le bienvenu a BLF. Hopefully you become enlightened

This is a bit a blast from the past. Many, many moons ago I stayed with my family on a camping at the foot of the Grande Dune de Pilat. With a height of 109m (358ft) the highest dune in Europe. And we had lots of fun (though we had to drag/lift my younger brother/sister over the dune). But there were lots of animateurs present. And there was a lot of action in the region: Tour de France, airshow, bullfight, etc. Still is, apparently :+1:

Thanks for all thooses fast anwsers !

It’s more a hobby than a job !

My real job (that i forgot to mention …) is laboratory technician in the perfumery raw materials (rose/jasmin/ylang/santal/etc etc…) ! At the opposite of my hobby  , but i don’t need flashlights in my job so i’ve forgot to talk about it :innocent:

@spideroz ty for all thoose details !

@Henk4U2 : indeed, there so many activities to do in my region !

Thank you for your advice but i have a question : what are you calling “throwers” ? tell me if i’m right : that mean the light is more “concentrate” in a spot than other flashlights ?

’Cause indeed i would prefere a “focused spot” than a wide open one to be more “precise” from far !

This C8+ seems good, but i think a bit to long to carry it all night long in pocket … have you any other proposition ?

[quote=jt40]

Yes you are right about "throwers", a concentrate beam to see far away, but less spill/flood for short/medium distances.

If you want something more compact/shorter than sp36 the Emissar D4S SST-20 5K could be a nice alternative. Way more compact, only 220G with battery and clearly easier to carry, with this led you'll still have a decent combination off flood and throw for a decent price.

Around 50 euros with a 26650 battery, but you'll need too add a charger for an extra 10/15 euros.

Bienvenue compatriote !
Je suis d’Angers, n’hésite pas is tu as des questions

Welcome aboard !

Même chose pour moi, venant du Québec toutefois.

Same thing for me, coming from Quebec.

Throwers throw the light at higher distances in a more concentrated beam.

Salut.

Maybe you need both a headlamp and a flashlight. Neutral white (more yellow) light would be easier on your eyes and your guests.

Headlamp: Acebeam H40 HCRI version (focused beam). This will free up your hands if you need to check bags.

Flashlight: Rofis MR30 https://www.amazon.fr/Rofis-Mr30-lampe-rechargeable-Xhp35-1600-lumens-fonction/dp/B07HRM3G7R/

If you want a flashlight that could be used as both, then consider Rofis R3.

Salut Jérémy,

Soit le bienvenu sur BLF.

For your partners, a convoy S2+ with an XP-L HI (U6 3A (neutral white)), 7135x8 that has more throw than the S2+ with XM-L could be nice for medium range inspection.
On the convoy store you could ask simon to flash the driver with biscotti that is better than the default UI of the same S2+ sold on banggood for example.

The nice thing about the S2+ is that you can swap in any standard ~20mm TIR lens for the reflector. Anything from narrow-angle to wide-angle, it may not be “zoomable” but you can change it from spot to flood in about 5-10min at home.

Bon… On se démarre un BLF franco ?

Bienvenue JT40 !

... et salutations à tous les francophones :)

Francophone?

Hey this one is obviously a NYer-phone
