This light and it’s fans are supposed to handle water immersion. CPU fans don’t.

The fans should also be low voltage, so no real safety concerns.

Knowing that the fans are still not easily swapped (I thought the MS18 fixed this issue) my opinion of the design has gone down greatly. It is unfortunate.

It is rated IP56 so it is not submersible.

What I mean is get wet. Like rained on. This is much tougher than what CPU fans go through so I do not expect them to last very long.

This was Imalents chance to make a nice, user replaceable fan in case it has any issues, but they chose to not do that. When I first saw the pictures of this light I was glad they made the fans easy you swap out. Now I am disappointed. That is all.

Well, my 9year old Panasonic full hd camcorder fan is still working. It has quite a lot outdoor use. And I don’t think this light is useful during rain. It is heavy and expensive. Last thing I want to use it in the rain. It is for fun bursting 100k lumens into darkness. If military or police force ever bought it for night tasks, don’t think they will repair it themselves.

Great beamshots. Really shows the difference between the X70 and MS18. MS18 is impressive.

I like that video a lot! I wonder how long it took to make it. I've been thinking of doing a video review besides my written review, but I'm afraid it will take too much time, and I probably need other tools (remote microphone).

I made my first video of the production version of MS18. I speak in hungarian but it has full english subtitles.
Hope you will like it. I teared it to multiple parts. Don’t want to make it too long. This part 1 contains unboxing, first thoughts, user interface, how it works and some teaser blinks of what is next.

ZozzV6, really nice video review you have created.
Ya, strange that 10k doesn’t have active cooling feature, maybe Imalent set the temperature threshold quite high to preserve battery.

No. User manual said that only the 22000 lumens or above levels have the fans automatic activation. They told me they could hold in hand after 20 minutes in 10K lm. Maybe they less sensitive to heat than me Smile I will try to measure heating up in 5K and all above levels and monitoring temperature but I will stop if it reach 70°C on the head.

If you guys are considering buying one of these new Imalent lights, make sure you get in touch with Martin from m4dm4x.com. He will hook you up.

Brainsick67, thanks for the review. Now I know that two pieces are plastic. Good thing is that it will be lighter.
I personally think Acebeam has given up to compete with Imalent this round. They don’t release any info about their future beast to hold on their potential customers who want to buy big flashlights. Looks like their plan is to watch Imalent release MS18 and see how it goes.

Then it is quite sure they really design active cooling for lumens higher than 10k only. Their thinking might be that DX80 has no fan and it is 30k lumens.
But I think if there is a active cooling feature, why not have it for all modes, let the temperature decide. If user uses Turbo and 25k for let’s say 5 minutes, and then switch to 10k lumens, MS18 should still be very hot.

Can’t you manually turn on the fans?

That means during OFF—->Turn On Fan—->Use whatever level—->Turn Off Fan after use.
That is quite manual.

Is it not worth it to have fans on at 10,000 lumen for long time? I thought this is what you wanted?

Automatic is always most convenient in this case. Manual override is also good feature, they are not mutual exclusive.

Just when the main leds OFF. With 4 clicks. But one click turns fans off. Abother one click turn light on. When main leds ON 4 click does nothing.

So you can’t manually turn on the fans while at the 10k lumen level?

You can’t manually turn on fans at any level. Just when flashlight is off. That is sadly limits the use of the 10K level. It is better to use 22k if you don’t mind the fan sound vecause the light is cooler in that level than 10k. At 22k I measured 50°C at head after 10 minutes.

Martin, can the fan on based on temperature too?
Automatic active cooling for 10k will be better compared to manual cooling.
