I’m still amazed how they get a product from one end of the country to the other, amalgamate it and ship it within days. The warehousing, tracking and shipping coordination is at a level that I thought would be almost impossible to achieve.
On Wednesday, I ordered 9 items, all different types of products, all “shipped by” Amazon, four different warehouses, over the Easter holidays, will be delivered on Monday. So they basically took one order, found it in their mutliple warehouses, shipped it out the next day, brought it into ONE warehouse, packed it and shipped it.
Yes, we can hate them for destroying ma and pa shops. We can hate them for dominating the market. But we can’t hate them for the impossibly great system they have perfected.
Only 1.1million sqft huh? Wow, bet they can make it from their work stations to the cafeteria in time to eat lunch in peace!
The building I work in is 8.8M sqft, and that’s JUST the main building on the site excluding the few M sqft paint shop annex and the support buildings (I work for Honda).
Not sure you’re gonna get much support / love for Amazon here but while you’re at it, may as well help out their pagerank too… www.amazon.com
The very big plants I’ve been in usually have multiple and spread out cafeterias and change areas. One had bikes for their managers and some personnel.
One doesn’t have to love a company to be amazed at it’s abilities.
I’ve actually never had a problem with them of any type….so far.
Be careful about returns. They keep a record of EVERYTHING and if you are tagged as an abuser, they will cut you off.
I’ve kept cheap items even if I didn’t use them. It breaks even with a few 10 buck rewards for being late or shipping the wrong item.
One incident was interesting, I got an item three months late from China, money already refunded, tried to pay for it and they said…keep it for free. If it cost too much to process or return, they won’t bother.
I’ve returned/scrapped a few things (outdated by a year on 64 bags of white cheddar popcorn) butt I feel they/or other buyers should be informed as to bad descriptions/lies on items I bought. There are enough shills putting up prejudiced reviews. I paid for Prime and iffn they don’t live up to their promises then I’m gone. So I feel I got a right to return whatever doesn’t. I’ve only had to do it maybe 5 times in over 5 years.
I love the ease of ordering, the vast array of merchandise, the usually low prices, their customer support (has always been good to me), the easy returns (not too many since the first order made in 1999), the fast shipping. the accuracy of order filling, …
I hate the reports I read about worker pay and conditions. I also hate what I see in general regarding the widening gap between what the average corporate worker gets in wages earned and what goes to the CEO.
They are great usually. After many issue free orders, I had one mix up that their automated system could not handle. Had to actually talk to someone. Terrible experience with a person that did not speak English well and could not understand the problem at hand. Took forever on the phone and still they didn’t get it. I was very surprised that such an efficient company otherwise broke down when verbal communication was involved.
