[4K Review] Lumintop EDC05C ...SO DAMN CLOSE!!!!

My review…

nice review!!!

Another great video.
Thank you for posting!

Thanks.

I think the reason behind the low lumens must be so it can run directly off a powerbank on high mode. Quite an exceptional design.

I wonder if the XHP35 creates less heat than a XPL when run full power for a long time?

Full “spec power” or full power full power? The 35 will indeed crank out some heat and need to step down. Both in a GT and in a Convoy C8. And especially in a little Nitecore Concept 1!

Full power of the EDC05C, I’m wondering if Lumintop tried to use an XPL but it got too hot after 10 mins or so of constant max.

The EDC05C was 38c after 10 mins use, holdable, my TOOL AA 2.0 was a scorching 60c after 10 mins use so 700 lumens was out of the question. It’d be interesting to see how hot the XPL would be after 10 mins of max mode in the EDC05.

And what, exactly, is max mode in this light? … don’t have one.

The XHP-35 is at it’s best around 2.5A, it can go up to some 3.1A or so but it generates a lot more heat for the few more lumens so really not worth going much above 2.5A. It makes good power at 2.2A with less heat so there are compromises to be made sometimes. And of course I’m talking about emitter current, amperage actually flowing through the emitter. A single cell boost will normally pull up to and over 10A while trying to maintain 2.3 ish to the 35. Heat will be a problem.

To run any smaller light for 10 minutes or more without heat issues will require low lumens, pretty basic really and takes us back to 105C drivers with regulation chips keeping current to a miserly 2A or less at 3V. It is what it is…

Ah, ok, I see. silly choice to use a boost circuit at 12V in such a small light.

Everything seems aimed at muggles so their must be a reason.

I was wondering the same thing about the choice of emmiter. There are a lot of emmiters that could reach that level of output clearly.

People want the 35, it sells, so whether or not it makes sense it gets used.

This light produces just over 400 lumens at max power. That’s pretty pathetic output for an XHP35.

I like the design of the light and feel in the hand, but it really needs a turbo mode of at least 800 lumens.

Perhaps we’re looking at it the wrong way. A small AA sized light that can make 400 lumens til the cell dies, sounds much better from that direction.

Got mine the other day. Well………. It’s ok. I like to flood light option but the XHP35 Hi was not too impressive. Guess it is good for its size. Definitely will not be my EDC choice. Looks great and I like the feel. Guess it fills a niche for some. Going to try and put a warmer tint but I have not tried to disassemble anything yet.

This has been my new work edc for a while.Replacing Tool AAA with neutral 4500K 92cri 219b Nichia,10440 and about 400 emitter lumens on turbo.
Edc05c is a nice flashlight, not perfect,I would prefer both the main and side to have about 5000K high cri (like the Blf348 had). The pocket clip is strong and deep carry,my Tool AAA had a reverse clip (clicky switch)and I fitted it to a cap here and there. The magnetic tail in Edc05c is now used more often…enough with comparing 2 different flashlights…

It took me a while to get used to a mode memory, not a big deal anymore, actually a nice feature. One click on,two extra clicks to access the side light, long click off,no need for me to use the lockout function, perfect.Usb chargeable, while it would be nice to know the actual battery level,It is so easy to just plug the usb cable and top the charge now and then.Output is decent, far from the most brightest but runtime is Ok,even on maximum.Magnetic charging would be nice… 4.5/5 stars.
