Goodbye internet connection - Update in post #80: Internet is back!

My internet connection at home has been cut off.

I'm at a public library right now.

Mr. Admin doesn't want anyone to discuss online piracy, and keeping that in mind, I cannot say why we lost the internet.

Once we get the internet back, I will have to get a VPN again.

I will not be on BLF as frequently as in the past until we get the matter sorted.

Good luck RC! Let‘s hope it’s not the Umbrella corporation behind the disconnection. Wink

It's Exede satellite internet.

They say that they sent warnings via letters in the mail, and emails, but we didn't receive anything from them.

They should contact us on Monday.

Although I don't like satellite internet, it's the only choice for broadband where we live.

I feel for you man. I was without internet for about 2 weeks after the same situation, had to find a new ISP.

Stay strong!

Good thing you just bought a PS4. Time to play RE7 and RE2 remake! Cool

May I ask what bandwidth you normally get for upload and download?

Resident Evil 2 remake is great. RE7 was also great, and very immersive. Highly recommend both.

During specific hours and days, we had fast internet.

Otherwise, we had slow internet.

With fast internet, I could download about 2MB/sec.

With slow internet, I could download about 25KB/sec.

I think our maximum upload was about a quarter of our download.

However, with slow internet, surfing the web was faster than 25KB/sec.

I played Resident Evil 1 REmake and RE7.

They were both very good.

I haven't played RE2 REmake yet, but I plan to, probably on PC.

Wait, you lost your ISP connection just because content providers are salty, and are attacking your ISP for no reason?

Seems like Viasat(the owner) is also a content provider…

Disgusting practices done to an individual.

In the meantime, download as many posts on BLF as possible along with a lot of YouTube vids.

Goodbye drivers license.

I was told not to drink and drive.

I did.

Now I lost my license.

Dont feel bad for me? I’d hope not…

*note I didn’t actually drink and drive cause I’m not an idiot. If you don’t do illegal things you don’t have to suffer the consequences. Is this a serious “feel bad for me” thread?

To harsh? I don’t care.

“woe is me, I did something I’m not supposed to do and the authorities stepped in”

Sorry I don’t just jump on the “I’m sorry, how could this have happened to you” bandwagon..

I admit I did something wrong.

I should have been using a VPN.

We just didn't get the warnings that our ISP claims to have sent.

Equating DUI’s to Internet violations is nonsense. Grow up.

Here's what I think of using the internet at the library:

The keyboard is sticky, and I don't care for it.

I don't really like the mouse either.

I cannot go to some websites because they are blocked.

The connection speed is very fast compared to satellite.

I'll be glad once we get the internet back at home.

I wonder why it is so sticky…

Didn’t know ISPs are so strict in California. shocking.

I'm hoping the people that use the keyboard had food on their fingers.

If you can handle the summer heat, it's not a bad place to live.

I like it a lot more than where I grew up, the San Joaquin Valley.

Palm Desert has its perks, I enjoyed the proximity to Joshua Tree.

Btw, I’d recommend the Rancho mirage library. The only library I remember in palm desert was near washington and hovely, and it was tiny.

I'm at the Palm Desert Public Library, on Fred Waring near Monterrey.

I prefer the Rancho Mirage library, but this one is closer to home.

LOL

Under TWC, I never got any of those “you’ve been a bad boy” letters until years later, and for things I never had any interest in: a chick-flick, a standup comedy show, coupla other weird-ass things that had me scratching my head, “wtf??”.

When they bought / were bought by / merged with Rectum, umm, Spectrum, those letters started flying fast’n‘furious.

Hell, I can’t help it if someone was piggybacking onto my wifi. There are two flavors of wifi: one that’s easy to crack, and another that’s even easier to crack. Reaper can do it, what?, overnight?

So… I go sign up for a vpn, turn off ssid, change the wifi name (in case turning off ssid wasn’t enough and someone’d still remember it), and don’t recall getting a bad-boy letter since.

Only problem is, some vpn sites get flagged, and even innocuous things like ups.com don’t work anymore. They’ll load the page “frame”, but the juicy bits just keep pinwheeling and no info pops up. Other times, you’ll get captchaed more often (vs never before), and all sorts of random irritations pop up.

Problem with those letters is how they just suck. “Admit you did wrong and promise to never do it again, and we’ll leave you alone. Challenge it in any way whatsoever, dare to say ‘That ain\‘t me!’ and we’ll turn over allllll your personal info to the complainer and put a bullseye on your back.” Wow, some choice…

They all can go die in a fire. MPAA, RIAA, complicit ISPs, the whole lot of ‘em. They make me root for the pir8s.

You mean theft of proterty?

No one better take TK’s side anymore when she complains about Chinese mfg’s using her or Tom_E’s code without following the rules.

Or using TA / DEL’s driver designs…

This site is one of the most hypocritical I’ve ever seen!

Tell em some one was on your wifi without your knowledge and you’ll set a password up now.
