Custom STONEWASHED Sanrenmu 738 (pics)

Hi,

I wanted to share this with you guys, becouse I think its turned out perfect. So my favorite knife is the SRM 738, I am really suprised by its build quality and fast opening and everything, my only problem was that it is too shiny to carry. It seemed too sensitive and I just didn't want scratches on such a beautiful knife. But recently I saw some youtube videos about homemade stonewash finishing. It seemed easy enough, so as they suggested I collected some round rocks, put it in a container, added the knife parts, and some lubrication. Basically thats it, only thing left is shake this for 1,5 hour, or put it in the washing machine.

I only did the handle and the pocket clip this time, but it is working with the blade too, however you have to resharpen it after the process, also some say it is weaken the blade and decrease the rust resistance.

Now I am thinking about what else can you stonewash? If your shiny light or blade is all scratched just repolish it a bit, stonewash and it is back to life.

Here are the pictures, sorry I cant add them here.

You simply click on the little tree symbol above the dialog box, paste the URL of the image, them press "insert"

Nice job, BTW !!!

Thanks! :)

Niiiiiice!!!

i like!

I just did an aluminum knife handle in a similar fashion - I used steel BBs (same as used in BB guns). It was taking forever w/ manually shaking it so I put a hole in the cap of the plastic bottle I was using and blasted air from my compressor in there at 120psi. Still took 20 minutes per side though...

I think i'll try stones next time!

Thats a good idea

I read somewhere that in real stonewashing they use ceramic balls. Anyway I think it gives the very same results, at least it looks the same, depending on the size of rocks/balls and the force you use.

i'd worry about doing it with a more expensive blade though.

Wow looks great! Can someone recommend a good vendor with the best price, so I can order one? I think I meant to order this one in the summer, but never got around to it.

Anyway thats a classic looking knife there, its amazing SRM can sell them for so little...

Sweet looking blade!

At this time, the cheapest reliable vendor I know of is TD.

As Oxy Moron suggested Tinydeal, or if they are out try Dinodirect with a good coupon code, or exduct.

Nice job Rad!

How did you remove the CF inserts from the handle?

CF insert is glued to the blue spacer, but when you take it apart it is easily release. It is so perfectly cut, that when you reassambly the knife you dont have to glue it back, becouse the handle will hold it on the place without any movement.
