So, first impressions – Photos online cannot give an accurate enough picture of how SMALL this DT8 is! And that is a great thing! I have in the last 2 months received 2 of the new FireFlies E07x Pro’s, which i Really like but they are not small lights by any means (but probably close in output to the dt8 while still being pocketable, is why i mention them specifically). But having the DT8 in hand, i see what all the hype is about with it – its TINY! Like barely bigger than the D4. and if the output is as good as it should be (and i’m sure it will be), it is a huge deal to have that many lumens, so nicely designed and executed, in such a tiny package. This little light is beautifully done, awesome work Hank!

Oh, and the D4sv2 is fantastic as well!

Hahaha your post may have pushed a few folks off the fence. Mine is in transit, really looking forward to getting it. Still waiting for a review.

I feel sorry for people who don't have a hobby or interest to escape to.

I don’t think it’s been around for long enough yet. Very interested to see it’s sustained brightness compared to other pocket rockets.

There is a detailed review in the German Forum (TLF) from andreas0401 with beamshot comparisons and runtime tests

Artiet59, wait till you get outside with that. Feed it well! It gets hot fast, but somehow it cools very fast too. Neat light, the DT8.

yea, you are right, it does cool really fast! I don't know.. the More used it last night / this morning (it's 4am), the more I feel like it might be one of my favorite.. well damn. I'm not saying anything yet. It's really, really good though. Gotta keep using it. Gotta get it in xpl-hi 5K next, just for output. This xpl-hi 2800k 8a is a Really nice tint. I can already see why this made it into production though. It's a mini beast. Running it on molicel P26a, it's doing great. @ 3.8v, I've probably run turbo 20 times until too hot to hold (45 seconds?) and had it on for another 20 minutes in higher outputs. I mean if you want longevity you need to buy a 35e or something. I don't own any, I just own a dozen or so P26a and swap them out as needed.

haha, well I don't know if that was my intention, but honestly .. coming from me, someone who wasn't really sure I even wanted this light, I am blown away by it and I couldn't imagine anyone (especially a Hank fan) being disappointed by this light. I would be Shocked if someone was disappointed with this thing. It is by a wide margin the most impressive new light I have gotten in.. well, the last 6 months. I'd say this, the e12r, KR1, and gt micro are at the top of the list of Holy Sh*t!  lights Lol.

I wish I knew how to do a runtime test properly.. if anyone could lead me to a reviewer who has good examples of them, I will certainly try my best at it. If anyone is interested..

my one suggestion to Hank-

regarding the DT8 - maybe consider including a couple extra bezel screws with the order, in the event someone wants to remove the bezel and may need them. Now, I totally understand why you maybe do not include them (I'm sure your not promoting inexperienced users from messing with the bezel, screws, torque, etc), but there are those of us (ahem) who are curious. I mean I will probably Not ever remove the bezel, but the extra screws would be a good addition. Also, I know we could just ask you when we place the order and I'm sure you would include a few, but I didn't even think of asking until right now. Again, I'm most likely not going to remove the bezel because I see no good reason too (although heating it up to a nice bronze/blued color would look awesome).

How do the 8A emitters compare to the old and new 5D emitters? Rosy?

DEFINITELY rosy. They are Much Warmer than the 5d (both new and old), and about as warm as the sst20 2700k id say (I only have 1 single emitter 14500 light with the sst20 2700k to compare it to). But when comparing to my 5d new and old (rosy and more yellow), they are rosy. I tried to take a picture of the 3 this morning, but even with a downloaded camera app to eliminate auto correcting color temps, it still was not clear how the 8a compares. But I will say that when lightenzaza told me they were rosy and like the old 5d, they were correct. It was a solid recommendation, I'm very happy with them

Has anyone tried, or would anyone try the a mix of (2) xpl-hi 2850k and (2) xpl-hi 4000k? Like in a d4, d4s, or kr4?just curious if it's a terrible idea or not. I have a d4 with (2) 2700k sst20 and (2) 4000k sst20 and it's really nice, got the idea from all of you. But I only wonder bc the with xpl-hi 2 would be 80 cri and 2 would be 70 cri, I don't know if that look bad or fine? Any thoughts?

This will not apply to German customers, will it? I would be interested in buying this KR4. Anyway, this is a great deal, Hank. Smile

Anyone know a good place to buy the square Carclo optics for the DT8? I want to try the 10610 with my 2000k E21A DT8 but couldn’t find a place that sells them after some searching. They seem to have 4 types of optics that would work: http://www.carclo-optics.com/search-part-number?part=1061

Do remember that it’s more yellow than a few months ago. I have a K9.3 with the previous batch of 4000k and it isn’t quite as yellow.

That said, the current XP-L Hi 4000k is still pretty great, and I do love the DT8 I have with them.

I know, I know.. I went back and forth with all of my multi emitter sst20 4 & 5K and xpl-hi 4K and 5K light this morning to determine which emitter I wanted next. I know I want "brighter" than the 2800k. I landed on 4000k knowing it is still yellow atm, but i started writing an email to Hank asking him if he will do 4x 2800k and 4x 4000k xpl-hi. But I haven't sent it. I'm honestly torn if I want a (approx 3400k) version, or just 4000k.

then I started considering a mix of 4000k & 5000k xpl-hi.

I am so confused lol.

But I am wondering if the deep warmth of the 2800k would mix nice with the 4000k and give a good tint. The 5D looks like a 5000k emitter next to the 2800k 8A LOL.

It’s amazing that the DT8 thread is longer than the D4 and D4v2 threads.

I should probably order a DT8 so I can experience the power! Cool
