… but I’ll post a lot more details soon in a review.

Has the latest version of Anduril from TK with the improved stepdown?
It’s with the latest anduril ui from TK.
TK updates it so quickly that it’s hard to tell what the latest is
Personally, I’m looking for at least version 420 from 2019-05-22 …
If I understand correctly, it ships with a revision from 2019-06-17. Like, two days ago. I spent the weekend fine-tuning the thermal regulation. The D4 is difficult to regulate since it has so much power in such a small space!

Wil the Ramping IOS V2 be there as a optional choice? Not everyone likes Anduril.
No, RampingIOS V2 has not been ported to the new driver.
It should be relatively easy to port RampingIOS V3, but it hasn’t been done yet either.
Regardless, most basics in Anduril are the same. It even has compile-time options now to change the on/off timing, since that was something a lot of people have strong feelings about.

do these lights actually have muggle mode or no?
Yes. It was removed for a while, but people wanted it back… and with a light as hot as the D4, I can understand why. So it has muggle mode now.
6 clicks: enter/exit muggle mode
7 clicks: change aux LED brightness
7 clicks (but hold last click): change aux LED color
Man Without Shadow wrote:
Will there be an Aux LED rainbow option? multi colored?
Yes. One of the colors is “rainbow”. Another color is “voltage”, to indicate the battery status.
That is a good question, though from my experience I have found Anduril to operate just like Ramping IOS V2 if you only use the relevant button presses.
I have found the simple shortcut to directly ramp down instead of having to guess the ramp direction to be an incredibly useful addition in Anduril however.
Click, click and hold it. Do a double click but don’t let go of the button at the end until you want to stop ramping down. It’s the same as ramping up, except with a quick click before you hold the button.
Ouch, I put together an order and it came to $57 and it was with the SST-20 version, 18350 and 18500 tubes as well as the SS bezel. May be a couple of weeks before I can order one of these. I really don’t use these types of lights much but they make for a great collectable.
Will there be an Aux LED rainbow option? multi colored?
You mean like a slow color shift around the color wheel rainbow? A continuous color rotation like that would be both weird and cool.
Well…just several colors…Lexel had some boards with like green/pink/ and blue…or whatever
Pictures of the rainbow LED option and voltage LED option would be nice…
TK’s Anduril on D4S “breathes”…so a breathing rainbow would be neato!
Thank you!
Ohhhh…maybe I misunderstood…ALL of those colors will be on the board and are selectable? As well as a “rainbow” and “voltage” mode using the multi colors?
thanks!

Well… I ordered two! Dark grey with SST20 5000K and dark grey with SST20 4000K and two stainless steel bezels. My D4S and D18 have the 4000K and I really like the throw/tint.
One question… How does the voltage aux light readout work? What do I see when I configure the aux LEDs to the voltage setting? Cheers.
And also between the 10622 and 10623 Carclo optics?
Thank you.
All SST-20s are throwier/higher candela per lumen than the X-PL HI.
The 5000K is not high-CRI but basically matches the output (and efficiency IIRC) of XPL HI.
4000/3000K SST-20 is about 25% lower output but are high-CRI. So a bit more heat, lower max output at turn on and less efficient when matched for output against the others but high-CRI with EXCELLENT red rendering.
X-PL HI almost always has a good tint, either below the BBL (rosy) or right on it (little to no ugly green). SST-20 is greener at low power levels, pretty good at ~500ish and rosy at turbo or close to it. Personally I’ve been happy with the 4000K SST-20s as they’ve been no more or less green than almost all the other high-CRI emitters I’ve tried (219B and E21A being the exceptions).

So just to confirm, the V2 will have the version of Anduril with additional 60 lumen lockout mode and option to set mode memory to a specific output?
This looks great! I love the multi-colored AUX lights.
My one disappointment is the original driver. This would be a perfect EDC light with a few more 7135 chips. I would really like to see a FET+3 like the D4S or, ideally something more like a FET+8 or FET+7+1.
I hope Hank will implement something like that before too long. {fingers crossed}
Are the ss bezel, magnetic tail caps, and battery tubes going to be available for sale separately? For those of us who want to swap out some parts with v2 parts.
Got my 2 ordered early this morning. I never get anything in CW so I got a grey one in the sst20 6500k with the magnetic tail. I’ve been really happy with the output and the throw of the sst20s vs the crees. I’m a really big fan of the 3000K, so I got one of those too but w/o magnetic tail. I hope to carry the 3000k more and don’t want to worry about the magnet erasing credit card magnetic strips in the ones that have it.
Love this version of the light, Hank. The multi-colour aux LEDs are probably going to drive me slightly nuts – and maybe require a matching set of D4v2s, one for each hand…
A question on the battery type though: Is a Samsung 30Q enough for this light, or would one of the Sony VTC6 be better? I have a VTC6 in my current D4 and it seems to work extremely well. It would be easy to get the battery shipped in the light, saving the normally userous shipping for LiIon batteries into Canada. But if a different battery would power the light for longer, I can deal with it.

Same cells, with same chemistry and ratings. The Sony is slightly longer.
But you can get better capacity cells for slightly longer run-time. 3600mAh instead of 3000mAh but you also have to look at the Continuous Discharge Rating (higher amps mean higher output but less run-time if you use turbo or unregulated output)
so is the Aux board with a second MCU that controls the colors?
and the main MCU uses serial data to set the Aux MCU?
or Attiny 1634 MCU with more pins to control 3 aux LED channels?
djozz wrote:
The led is nothing special, not much bigger than a single-colour aux led. But you have to adress the three colours separately to do the colour mixing and get those different colours, so the aux board and MCU must support that (occupies more pins).
Leds must be something like this:
you can simply put 3 0402s together smaller than such a 0606 LED size
I don’t think it’s quite a deal breaker for me, but it’s certainly a reason to keep using my FW3A. It’s the primary reason I keep using my FW3A instead of my D4, even slightly moreso than the fact it runs Anduril.
On the bright side, with Anduril on the new D4 I should be able to cap the ramp at something reasonable like 300 lumens to limit how much power I fritter away. The new option to make it always switch on at any desired level (such as max regulated) will be really useful too.
Is there somewhere a comparison between the FET and the 7135 efficiency? (for different power levels)
Or can someone just write some general numbers?
I’m confused by the pictures. They show with and without stainless bezel?
The stainless bezel is an option
Just answering a few questions really quick…

Wow, sounds fantastic. Thanks for the info TK!
My 219C D4v1’s 18350 tube won’t even fit on my XP-L HI D4v1…
I gotta tell ya, this is pretty terrific!

Anyone know if this new anodizing is smooth or the rough texture?

Looks great. Multi-colored bezel aux LEDs without having to change the aux board! Plus Anduril and knurling! Ordered two.
I notice the switch appears to be exactly the same as on the v1. It is not recessed. Guess I’ll mod the switch soon as it arrives.

hoping the aux LEDs on this are adjustable in brightness like those on the FF lights. Also waiting to see about thread compatibility with the D4 v1.
exciting flashlight times!
Damn…. I must have one…..
I will wait for the recently ordered D4 with 3000K and decide if I get a D4 V2 with 3k or a 4k then….

Bring on the D4SV2.
Can someone explain how aux leds are implemented? Do they turn on when the light is off? Like a lit tailcap? Or is it a mode during use?
I’d want them pretty dim if the former.
