[solved] question about replacing power cord for Miboxer c4-12 charger

So I recently ordered the new upgraded C4-12 charger but due to error on my part perhaps I got the EU plug and I need the US plug.

So my question is can I just replace the cord that plugs into the power supply or do I need to replace the power supply brick as well?

Also for the cord, what do I need to look for when buying a replacement?

Generally you can just replace the cord to the power brick. But you should check what requirements are listed on the power supply. On the power brick it should state what voltage and frequency it requires for AC input to the power supply. You should see something like “INPUT: AC 100-240v 50/60Hz” in the USA most outlets will be 110v 60Hz which would work.

The connector that fits into the power supply should be an IEC-320-C7. Those cables are pretty universal so you likely already have one that will work. If you have a cable that seems like it would work but doesn’t quite fit, do not attempt to modify the cable.

It is pretty common for suppliers to ship the wrong power supply cables when you order online, I would ask for them to ship one to you instead of purchasing one.

Ok the power supply does say something like INPUT: AC 100-240v 50/60Hz so I should be good there. I will see if I do have one of those cables already and try it. Thanks for the help.

Here a C4-12 brick that came with the US plug. Compare them, and if the same, just order a new cord from Amazon or somewhere.

Mine is the same model and specs. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Just replace the detachable ‘figure 8’ power cord with the one that has a US plug and you’re good to go, the brick remains as-is.

FWIW I have never had a seller decline to ship me a needed power cable. Usually they have multiple versions of the same item with only the power cable being different and they mix them up. You will have to decide if it is worth spending the extra money.

anonymous_user, the same thing happened to me from Banggood. If you ordered from them, it was their fault, not yours. The product page states that the C4-12 includes a plug adapter for your country.

I’m working on resolving this will Banggood.

In the meantime, I’m also trying to find a cord I can plug into the brick.

The EU plug specs are: 2.5A 250V~.

I have a plug (specs: 10A 250V~) from another charger with input specs: 100-240V 50/60Hz 350mA(MAX).

It seems the 10A 250V~ plug should work in the C4-12 brick with input specs: 100-240V~50/60Hz 1.5A.

Can anyone confirm?

Ok so I managed to find a spare cable (or rather took it from a device I wasn’t using) and it seems to be working fine. Thanks everyone.

Grappler, the cable I found and am using says 7A 125V. This for a US plug. What country do you need a cable for?

I should have clarified that I’m in the U.S. If your 7A 125V works, I guess my 10A 250V should work.

It should work fine.

Thanks, Mark!

You could just get any US/EU 120V 2 prong cord for the charger itself.

Even a 2A capable cord will be enough, as the charger can only draw a max of about 52W.

Polarized versions of this power cord exist. The danger is when one uses a non-polarized cable and it is inserted into a device that should take a polarized cable. But there is no risk here since the device and cables we are discussing are non-polarized.

I’m just curious, why not just use an EU-to-US plug adapter. Will that not work or pose some problem?

I’ve also ordered some stuff from BG before and if the device has an EU plug, they usually include an EU-to-US plug adapter (our country also use US-style plugs)
