This light blows me away.
It is a fairly narrow beam, so that has to be kept in mind,
BUT
It totally blows away my Convoy L6 on the highest mode.
AND
The BLF Q8 on the highest mode.
In fact, high on the 03 is pretty close to those two lights on max.
On Turbo, HOLY COW!
This is amazingly bright and has an incredible throw. I have never seen anything like it! This is the 5700K version
This is some bargain for $33.00 from Banggood.
One note: After playing for a while the battery was at 3.77V (Keepower protected 5200 26650) and it would still hold turbo no problem. Did not get that hot either.
My Rofis MR-70 will no longer hold turbo when the battery gets below 3.87V.
So that means something I guess
This is the current version with the XHP-50
This has to be about the best light on planet earth for $33.00
Yea those other lights are still good they are just as bright but they will offer better run times so they have there uses. If you get into modding you can change the current on your L6 by changing the sense resistors that will give it a nice boost in output.
Fairly easy to do.
The Q8 and SP36 are actually brighter, have better build quality, and especially on the Q8, much higher thermal mass and much better thermal dissipation.
The meter may say so, my eyes disagree.
Since those are both more flood than thrower, they may indeed put out “more light”.
But in my actual testing, they don’t hold a candle to the FT03.
Whenever someone asks what’s the best light to get (or something painfully along those lines), I don’t answer, but ask, “Whaddya gonna do with it?”.
My GTmini/P30/variousC8s throw hella far, but close-in, they’re nigh useless. Each will light up a bright spot about the size of a coaster, but spill is useless. Or crank it up to get “useful spill”, but be blinded by the glaring hotspot.
Then again, my Q8 lights up an incredibly nice area at moderate distances but can’t throw all that far except by brute force.
And my Cometa on wiiiiiiiiiide flood throws a nice even blanket of light close in, and can light up a whole room wonderfully evenly, but is useless beyond a few dozen feet unless you zoom it in.
It’s just a matter of using the right tool for the job. No one light is intrinsically “better” or “worse” than other lights of similar quality. A thrower sucks close-in, and a flooder sucks farther out. Depends what you want to do with the light…
Agreed
I have adopted the MR70 as my EDC. It can do anything I need for a light that is on my belt - stuck in a blackout or an elevator - it can provide many hours of low light or less time of enough flood light to illuminate the lobby of a commercial building.
but this FT03 is probably my new favorite light. It is fairly small and light (of course not pocket size) and throws an amazing beam. But the spill is also quite impressive, and the ramping works really well all the way down to what is essentially moonlight. So it would be great for any activity where you would actually carry a light, as opposed to just having it in your pocket or on your belt.
I do agree about a thrower being mostly useless close in, this is an outdoors light for sure.
You may be right there, but please do not forget some important aspects, like bluesword already mentioned
The FT03 is a nice light, but hes very little thermall mass, so it will heat up fast and thus loose lumen output.
It will drain your batteries quite fast, so again you loose lumen output
The Q8, Sp36 both give you stock more lumens, but due to the small reflectors, they beam output is way different.
The XHP70 L6 will do stock about 3800 Lm which is almost the same as the XHP50.2 in the FT03, but as said it has more thermall mass so longer time to heat up and thus longer higher runtimes.
And yes, i did a resistor mod (R120) om my L6, and you can definitely see the difference, it will boost a 500Lm or so
I know English is not your first language, so no offense taken. But no, I will not reconsider my thoughts. They are mine and I am entitled to keep them.
its a good light, i have the sst40 version tho, but still its even better a thrower but the xhp50 is also a good choice if u want more lumens and less throw.
Love my FT03 as well, and i agree it blows away other throwers (not all obviously), but it is a very capable and fun light.
I keep mine on the windowsill and use it to look right across the grass towards a treeline, seeing all the wild rabbits scatter as i say “dam this thing throws”.
Agree with @Starkm32 please upload some beam shots.
