Yes I did receive the Oveready version. It is solid nylon, not hollow plastic. It is MUCH stronger and I cannot break it by pulling it open too far like the DarkSucks version. The OR version is So strong I can barely pull it open enough to slip it over a light.
You can get some idea of the difference in construction material density by comparing the weights of the two devices:
I still use the weaker DS version to remove a bezel, because it is easy to spread open, even with just one hand. Though I only have one DS now, and I use one of the OR with the DS version. When I need serious power, to crack open the control ring assembly on an RRT-01, which uses red locktite, I use both the OR tools, because they are so strong. No chance of breaking them.
I had hoped DS would send a free replacement for the broken tool, but they did not offer. In fact, they wanted to sell me a new pair. I had to convince them I only needed one, which they were willing to sell me. But by then I had ordered the OR version.
I cannot recommend the DS version… it feels weak and cheap, nor can I recommend their customer warranty service. They did not stand by their product.
Bear in mind the OR tool would work fine on an OR light, without the added leather spacer I glued in. Same for the DS tool, it is made for a larger diameter light than the RRT-01.
These are not universal tools, they are light specific, made for the diameter of the DS and OR lights. There is also a difference in how far the tools can close down. You can see the handle gap is much wider in the DS version…
I find the tools indispensable for the convenience of opening the many RRT-01 lights that I have been modding. Much easier to install and remove than the vice grips I have as a backup plan.
