2 AAA penlights in the budget - medium price segment.

I am still missing a classical penlight in my arsenal and I have put off buying one for quiet some time now. I have seen that there are a few new players in town.

The HYPETAC P2A and P2A SS which can be bought at Shiningbeam for $30,$35 + shipping - discount

and the Bronte RA03 that can be bought at sbflashlights for $25 + shipping - discount

The 3 lights look very similar in design and functionality

On the other hand there is the budget segment with single mode lights like

The Tank007 E06 with SSC emitter for ~$14 shipped

Are there other nice alternatives that I'm overlooking that have a clip and >80 Lumen output on high and maximum price of up to $30?

Don't forget the Preons from 4/7.

Thanks for the list Boaz I am looking through them now and update this post with the outcome:

the new Streamlight Stylus Pro has 48 Lumen

the Romisen RC-2B4 has a big head (20mm) and is no classical penlight

the same goes for the SAiK SA-207 (20mm)

The Preon 2 seems to be very nice indeed and has gotten great reviews , but is more on the expensive side with $45-discount

1920 pelican is rated with 67 Lumen by it's manufacturer

I want to avoid the sub $8 range as I hadn't good luck with them in the past, besides the SIpik SK68 of course.

The Terralux is a very interesting light with 80 Lumen and high CRI emitter... I have to look for reviews on that... also the price is nice ... at least in the US. The cheapest I could find for an European distributor was Amazon UK with ~18 GBP shipped ($28, €22) The bite grip is a clever idea imho.

The ICON Solo has 30 Lumen

The LED Lenser P4 has 16 Lumen

The Tank007 E06 is pretty sweet in red and is $0.40 cheaper for some reason.

my Tank E06 got hot enough to melt the solder on the led or at least i think that is what happened

my one has a SSC and 3 wires 2 of these have come detached

I ended up ordering the new Bronte 2xAAA penlight RA03 from DX for $20.

XP-G R5, 3 modes - no strobes.... perfect

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

That Terralux is a looker! And good output, normal batteries and good runtime.

I think am ordering one for my best friend! Hope he like orange! Cos I like it in orange!

What color does a orange light become when you cook it? ;-)

It gets black if you cook it long enough. ;-) Kokopelli also has a terra on its way. I hope you both get good ones... I was put off a little by some mixed reports about them. So I did the next logical thing and bought the light with virtually no real reviews on this planet... I guess I will never learn.

I had a TerraLUX LightStar 80 and everyone at work was so impressed with it that several people bought one. It's NOT 80 lumens, not by a long shot. I would put it dead even with the similarly sized Streamlight at 40 lumens.

However, I had a Streamlight Stylus Pro also (new version, 40 lumens) and it was so green that I gave it away. Horrible color. The TerraLUX has an amazing neutral white color. It's a really nice light.

Both, the Streamlight and TerraLUX, use the Cree XP-C emitter.

To me, the Terralux Lightstar 80 looks like 50 lumens. I really like the color tint of the High CRI LED. I don't like the sharp edges on the front of this light.

It looks so good on that polished brown table. I might not part with it when I buy it :-(

I have been buying and carrying penlights for work. Over the past year i have tried three of the better ones on the market in the $20-30 range. The Streamlight Stylus Pro, the Terra Lux Lightstar 80 and the Pelican 1920.
The Stylus is a really good go to light and i recommend it for people who just want a good penlight. The Pelican is my current EDC and fav. It is slightly heavier and thicker than the Pro but not so much that i notice. It is brighter and has a nice tint. Good lite for sure.
The Terra Lux was a bit of a dissapointment to me. It has a sickly yellow tint that was just too much. I work around electronics and wires and i didnt think it had better color rendering than a warm white tint. It was sooooo yellow that it skewed everything that way.
Short answer, the Pro or the Pelican are both grewt penlights.

I am more than happy with my Fenix LD05 although it is a bit heavier than a Preon II. Has a nice white tint and three well balanced modes. PWM is a bit annoying, though.
Have you guys tried Eagletac’s penlight PN20a2? It also looks like a powerful and strong light to have.

The ICON Solo has been my penlight for a few years now. It's a solid, well build light. The only peeve I have with it is that the anti-roll bevels on the head make it a bit chunky. Other than that, it's great.

I love my E06 I have bee using it for over a year with either 2 Duraloops or one 10440. It's a great little light I can't say enough nice things about it. I also have this clip for it which makes it a thousand times more useful.

i am hooked!!

Please do you have any link for it? Is this the only product of its kind (holder for AAA-size diameter) on DX?

D*mn, i didnt want to order anything from DX again!! :P

EDIT: found it: google hits for

Plastic Swivel Holder with Clip for Flashlight

I was going to post the same comments. The Pelican 1920 and Streamlight Stylus Pro C4 are my favorite penlights, in that order.

The Pelican 1920 is brighter than my C4 Stylus Pro, but draws more current from batteries. Runtime hasn't been a problem with either light yet.

There's this . It has not been mentioned on the board yet , so ....

It's a flood to throw 2 mode .
