oversize, adjustable handlebar mount for bicycle

i purchased the universal bike mount (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-bicycle-mount-8274) and when i finally got around to putting it on, it has a couple of issues. first, i want to mount it on the handlebar, next to the stem, and my bar is a 31.8mm diameter but the mount is only for 26.4mm bars. it forced me to move it out towards the brake lever which led to issue #2. it only points straight so when it is mounted on the swept part of the handlebar, the light is shining to the right (or left if it's on the other side). i tried it on a short ride and with my Yezl XM-L, it's barely useful. i have to jerk the bars to the left to see what's straight ahead and that's not very practical. it holds the light well, though.

anyone aware of a mount that can attach to a 31.8 bar and swivel if necessary? better yet, anyone know where i can get a cheap universal helmet mount for an 18650 flashlight?? that'd be even better! thanks ahead of time for the help.

Easy. Ditch the nut and screw, use a zip tie, perhaps some friction tape underneath the mount to help it get good grip. I use this method on all my bikes, 31.8 and 25.4mm alike.

I originally bought the one in the OP and didn't like it, way too flimsy. Try this Universal Bike Mount from Manafont. Much sturdier plastic plus it swivels. I have 6 different style bike mounts now and this one beats them all, with a TwoFish lockblock a close second.

I have purchased a half dozen of these they all still work great and I still use this one. They work great off road also they stay tight no matter what you do, works on over sized bars also. They are available at Shiningbeam, KD, DX and others.

The mounts E1320 linked to are all excellent choices as well, just make sure the inside diameter lines up with your flashlights. Mine work great with lights that have the same tube diameter as the tailcap (like an S-Mini or ST50); a C8 with the fat tailcap, not so much. But that's why I have several different mounts and will continue to buy a few new cheapies on orders until I find the perfect one.
