I’m curious when they’re going to actually be back in stock. I preordered my black one on December 13th 2019 and they never reshipped it after the first failed shipping attempt on January 9th 2020. I asked them many times since then when it may be back in stock considering they sold mine to someone else. I finally got sick of it on April 2nd and asked them to cancel my order once I realized no other colors were in stock either. For some reason the website has said they are in stock but as far as I’ve been told (as of the 2nd) they aren’t.

Which Keeppower?
The unprotected 6000mah is okay for this light, but to really get max output you need less capacity and higher amperage. I high drain cell is preferred.

Okay, that is a pretty weak battery with a lot of voltage sag. It should work if its unprotected, but dont expect full power. If its protected you’ll probably get even less power. You might only see about 10A from it which is way less power than the light is capable of.

Has anyone tried this? One of the reviews say the beam is slightly better than the original FT03 reflector. Not sure whether that means the intensity or the beam pattern.

Edit: fixed link

Anyone ever end up trying this reflector?

I bought the Nightwatch NI40 instead but I’m still interested in this light as well

Any word on this one? Still on the horizon? I’m hoping for a happy medium between ft03s and mf05.

It would be very similar to the GT90

I should have ordered the gt90 on the first group buy but I didn’t, now it says sold out until feburary 12th. Not sure what that’s all about but definitely not ordering it like that. I don’t mind a little wait but I have limits.

Well that explains a lot. That post was way up in this thread but I never heard the update. Thanks for the response, I guess I’ll have to go with the gt90.

I’m guessing the notice on Neil’s site saying out of stock until Feburary 12th is referring to 2020, and never got updated after it came back in stock. I sent him a message asking. If it is available I’ll probably just order that one.

The FT03S has a poorly focused reflector, lots of people in the thread have been complaining (rightfully so) about it. Because of it, the throw is significantly less than advertised.
Someone on the thread wondered if it was affecting new FT03’s as well, but I haven’t heard anyone confirm that possibility.

Don’t feel compelled to take them apart, but all you do is unscrew the front, then the glass and the reflector come right out easily.
If you do take it out, be careful to not touch the shiny inside of the reflector, because they’re and a bit of a pain to clean back to that perfect mirror finish.

If indeed (very likely) your FT03S reflector is subpar, and your FT03 reflector is good (also very likely) then you’d notice the hotspot of the FT03 get bigger, and the FT03S get smaller.
If you want to find out if that’s the case and/or improve your FT03S at the expense of the FT03, that’s what you’d do.

Well this is weird, I traded reflectors with an sst40 version and the ft03s that was not round before was then round but had darker area inside the center spot, and the sst40 did have a bigger center spot, so I swapped them back. Then I thought I would try trading on the 50.2 version, and the F03S is much better, and round. It also did not seem to mess up the 50.2 version as badly, and the center spot on it is still round…weird. If Astrolux was going to upgrade at 3 times the price, it seems they should have not sent the upgraded lights out faulty. One observation, when screwed back on, any of the 3 lights containing the FT03S mirror would afterward have a very small gap between the lens cover and the body of the light. That means the reflector was in fact a little…very little, bit longer…perhaps 1/4 mm at the most. That gap was smallest with that reflector in the 50.2 version. There is still a gap, but less than existed with that reflector in the other 2. If I left that white insulator off the gap might not be there at all, but what might leaving it out lead to. Think I will leave well enough alone, but that tiny gap might affect the waterproof of the lens cover, so I want test the 2 meter underwater on it either.

M4DM4X got 433.5Kcd with the old FT03 reflector which isn’t bad at all. That’s 1316m of throw which is good for a light of this size, output and price. Even with a good reflector and wires I doubt it’ll be able to hit 500 cause of the single cell which won’t able to push the SBT90.2 to it’s limits. I mean it might but just at turn on. Once they fix the issues this will be a great light. Wonder what they’re gonna do with the existing ones though..like mine.

At switch on I got 976 lux with standard reflector and 1101 lux with FT03 reflector in the FT03S. Measurements were done at 20 meter distance.

I read on this forum that this LED generates too much heat in small for factor flash lights.

No such thing. Like a V8 in a mini Cooper. Is it too much power? Is it drivable? Only you can decide.
