Curious where this project stands these days… any word from Sofirn?

Basically not different from februari: after chinese newyear Sofirn started with a new “structural engineer” for whom this was to be the first project. Then came COVID19 and everything was down for a while, then Sofirn was back communicating (some smaller new projects went ahead, i.e. the red C01R) but no news for this light. Maybe the numbers on the list are not impressive enough to justify the work on this new light.
I’m not in a habit of bugging Barry (who is my contact at Sofirn) every week, and in fact the long delay did not help me for staying focused on this, but I will mail Barry once more and ask for a status update.

The list in the OP hasn’t been updated since April 4. Maybe the list might be slightly more impressive with the recent interests.

I would love this light to have:

  • 90+ CRI
  • 3000K, 4000K or 5000K emitter
  • USB-C port not hidden in the threads
  • Battery indicator LED that stays always ON so the flashlight can be more easily located in the dark (tritium slot could do this job too)
  • Floody beam
  • Infinitely variable control ring would be nice if the cost of the flashlight stays budget friendly (under $30)

I’m interested in one of the proposed lights, just to try it out.

For me, charging from a USB-C source and charging with the control ring in the off position are essential requirements. I think having to remember to tour the light on after you plug it in or only being able to use some power supplies for charging is not muggle-friendly.

If it’s well executed I would probably buy a few more to give away.

I hope not, but I’m not sure what the status is now. I should contact Barry about this, but on the other hand Sofirn could show some initiative too, since they already had plans for making it (but I’m sure the pandemic changed a few plans here and there). I will ask Barry.

Interested in 2 (at least) if these lights go into production. I love my Anduril hot rods, but I hate that I can’t hand them off to loved ones that need a light.

I’m just going to take that to mean it is dead since you said you would reach out to Barry over a month ago.

But I forgot to do that then, and this time I mailed him just now. So who knows…

When I feel some dedication I will update the list in the OP, I’m maybe fifty or so behind. But mind that the project is on hold as long as Sofirn does not pick it up again since communication about the grandma light stopped in January.

If they would just add one or two lower modes to some of their diving lights I feel like it would open it to a wider market and not just for diving purposes.
