Who makes a 2019-2020 version of Astrolux S41

A few years ago I went on a flashlight buying binge, and wound up with ~100 of the little buggers. Of them all, the Astrolux S41 was my favorite.

But technology being what it is, I know the S41 is old news. Who makes a new design that has similar properties?

Emisar D4 or Lumintop/BLF FW3A might fit the bill.

Why is it old news?
Because it has a tail switch?

I have S41 and S41S (Stainless). Both running extended body 18650 cells.

They also do a S42, and S43 also. Side switch.
Mine are 291b and cree. Prefer the 291b.
Also prefer the 41 to the others.
FW3 Seems? to have a lot of problems. They have a specifit line of posts just for that.
and the Emisar a funny looking little thing (My opinions only)

Update. and different.
Imalent DN35 or 70. Look ém up.
Single emitter. 26650 cell.
Gret feel/fit, magic beam and spread.
Older school too.
But I have yet to see anything else on market that I’d spend more $$‘s on.

I normally go walkabout with Head lamp and either of those or C8+.
Covers from toes to 100mtrs plus. Of GOOD light.

I don’t see where it really needs to be updated. It still does exactly what it’s suppose to do and does it well. Maybe new emitters. $10 and a soldering iron can fix that issue.

I just gave my last one away. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I just needed to thin out some lights. What are they now, a shade over $20? Damn simple and nice for the price.

Thank you all for your suggestions; I’m diligently googling all of them right now.

Mine has an 18650 body too, and Nichia LEDs. It’s a good size and weight for my hands.

Where can you get them for that price? I’d be tempted to grab a few and call it a day.

It’s in this list with a coupon code:

Nice, thanks! They are out of stock on the black 18650 bodies though … hopefully they’ll get them back in before the coupon code expires. Don’t really want to split up the orders and then have to pay shipping.

Ha, the black was out of stock when I bought my S41 a couple of years ago. Ended up buying a blue tube they had available at the time. You may want to go ahead and buy a red or stainless one, assuming you don’t want rainbow.

I won’t try to give a hard sell on the FW3A, but I do like mine quite a bit and it’s pretty much replaced my S41.

-shorter (with 18650)
-lighter
-ramping UI w/ lots of features
-comes with pocket clip
-prefer the tint of the sst-20 on low modes

Yeah, I guess there have been some lemons out there and others require tinkering, but the two I bought both worked fine out of the box and haven’t given me any trouble so far. fingers crossed lol.

Alright, you’ve convinced me to try an FW3A. Thumbs Up In the link Jerommel posted they have a coupon code for the XP-L HI version; does anyone know of a coupon code for the Nichia version?

I got mine from NealsGadgets.com. He still has a 20% off code posted, NDFW3A, which brings it down to $32.50 and free shipping on the base model. Not sure if it’s the best price out there, but it should work on any of the emitter options.

For they are almost similar… Why not the Lumintop EDC18… I suppose it’s a improved version of FW3A.

Been reading this old post, can’t find any comparison between this EDC18 and the Astrolux S43, although they seem quite similar. Anyone done any comparison? Want to order one of these before the weekend (There is a nice sale on Ali)

Any advice is welcomed as usual.

Any particular reason you’re looking for the EDC18? As far as I know, the D4V2 is simply a better version of the light?

I got the Emisar D4SV2 already, just looking for something more pocketable. Was looking for EDC18 because it looks a bit better quality then the Astrolux
