Group Buy Now Live - BLF GT90 SBT-90.2 powered 5,000 Lumen, 1.8Mcd / 2600m Super Thrower

The planned date for it to re-open is Feb 12th. You can still place orders in the mean time but naturally shipping will be delayed until Mid-Feb.

Howdy BLF!

Been awhile since I have put my toes into a group buy but figured I would give this one a go since the light is impressive and we are trying out a new group buy method this time around that should make things simpler. I will explain the details for that later.

So this is an updated version of the BLF GT with an SBT-90.2 LED instead of the XHP-35 HI. The XHP-35 was the best LED option at the time the original GT came out but since then the SBT-90.2 has been released and it cranks the GT up to what I had wanted at the start.

The SBT-90.2 is still a very rare LED, as such they have only been able to get 100 of them at this point and are unsure when they will get more as they are backordered at all of their suppliers currently.

With the SBT-90.2 the stats have been bumped up to :

5000 lumens vs 2500 in the old GT
1.8Mcd vs 1Mcd in old GT

What does this mean? It means that you can light things up at 2600m away!

You can see VOB’s great review on it here where he compares it to the GT70 and K75:

The revised 3V carriers (they are NOT compatible with normal GT/GT70 carriers! DO NOT try to swap them around!)

Ok, now for the group buy details.

The group buy price for these first 100 lights that they have LED’s for will be $249.99. After that the retail price will be $349.99.

If they can secure more LED’s at the same price (the LED’s themselves make up a significant amount of the costs for this light) they might be able to sell more at the group buy price. Until the LED supply has stabilized they are not sure when more will be available or if they will be sold at the group buy price.

I did talk them into waiting to start the group buy until the lights were almost ready to ship this time around, so we don’t have to mess with all the lists, emails and production delays.

This time the GT90 will be sold from Neals store

He technically has a few on the way to him now that were finished before the new years break that will ship right away, the rest should be finished with assembly within the next few weeks and ship shortly after.

Thank you Texas_Ace :+1:

More interested in a conversion for the BLF GT/70. Or one for the Astrolux MF04/S.
I already own a GT70, BRAND NEW, that tens of people promise to buy but didn’t.

Sadly a conversion is not really a practical option this time around, mostly due to the issues that happened with the GT70 conversion kits.

Many people had issues installing them which led to a lot of warranty issues where they had to send replacement parts. They ended up barely breaking even on the ordeal as I understand it.

I don’t see them being open to a conversion kit this time sadly as I really had to pressure them into it last time.

I sadly doubt it. They just don’t seem to make anything but CW tints in this series of LED’s. It is the only downside I see tot his LED over the XHP35.

Particularly for the next while since they can’t even keep up with demand as it is.

If it was a direct replacement, how the hell can people mess that up?
Wait I think many people just do not know how to solder, I think.
I do not care… I still want a the parts to drop into my GT70, I built and modified many lights successfully, this is an easy mod, just send me the unsoldered parts, that way there is no warranty for you to worry about, right?

I wondered the same thing as I thought much like you it would be hard to screw up and little risk involved. I had more then a few people send me messages though about issues with the conversion so I know that the issues were real.

Also, due to the much higher LED costs for the SBT-90.2, a conversion kit would still be pretty pricey since it needs to also convert the light to 1S instead of 4S. Plus I doubt they will want to sell some of the hard to get LED’s until they have a larger supply available. They had a really hard time getting the 100 LEd’s they have now.

The SBT-90.2 is made by luminus so I would not say it is the same thing but I don’t recall seeing anything but CW LED’s from luminus in the past. So in that sense it is similar. I have heard they make really good CW LED’s compared to Cree.

Wow! Looks like a beast! Thanks a lot for taking this on, TA! Best wishes for a smooth process.

Ah, yes on that front you are correct.

Thanks, hoping by skipping all the list making and message sending process we can also skip the drama and go right to getting some nice lights lol.

:+1: :+1:

Luminus makes the SST-20 in all temps

Luminus started making the SST-40 in only CW but now we have 5000K

You shouldn’t hold your breath on NW/WW but it’s not impossible

Bought one!

And here I was happy with my K1 and awaiting the FT03 in SBT90.2, whelp good thing I run on instant noodles and live some what frugally as flashlights are the only thing draining my savings…. bought one ! =D

TA do you know if Lumintop is still making the GT4? Or at least know if it’s definitively canceled?
I was waiting on that and don’t want to buy the GT90 if GT4 will be released eventually.
Only have enough budget for 1 of them

Same here. I’ve been waiting on the gt4 for nearly a year. Definitely don’t have a need for two big lights.

I thought the same when I only had the BLF GT70 but here I am now… sitting with a MS18 in the other hand waiting for this to be shipped now….

This is the emitter that this host needs, the shots are amazing, and the price is quite reasonable when compared with other “super” lights, most of which merely create walls of blinding light that serve no practical purpose anywhere with even the slightest nighttime humidity, IMO  .

I’d love to buy one, but it’s just not possible. I look forward to more beamshots and comparisons as the lucky 100 get theirs, though, and am hoping that other projects are able to simplify their GB process as well. Off to watch those beamshots again…

I doubt it. If I recall correctly, the warmest SBT-90 was 5700K in both standard and high-CRI versions, so I expect it’ll be the same for the SBT-90.2. I doubt we’ll ever see a high-CRI SBT-90 or SBT-90.2 in a production flashlight, but it would make a fascinating modding project….
