Looking for Budget Bluetooth Closed Over-Ear Headphones

I'm looking for wireless (bluetooth) closed over-ear headphones.

I'm a basshead, so the more bass, the better.

It'd be nice if the headphones accept Brainwavz earpads.

Also, I have an extra large head.

Right now I'm looking at the TaoTronics TT-BH060.

They can be used with Brainwavz earpads, but I'm not sure if they have enough bass for me.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

EDIT:

I'd like to keep it under $65, but I know that may not be possible.

Another BLFer recommended these recently:

Said they have good bass, alas, that’s obviously subjective. I haven’t heard them.

I am also ISO of budget BT on-ear/over-ear headphones for my kid.

Those actually look pretty good.

Thanks for chiming in!

How big of a head does your kid have?

If he/she has a non-ginormous sized head, there are more choices available, though I've been avoiding those choices for myself.

He’s 5, so not very big.

I was looking at these new Pioneer ones for him, but I can’t find any reviews/feedback, maybe because they’re fairly new.

I just ordered Mpow H12. Amazon had a clip coupon at the moment bringing the price down to $35.

They have ANC which may be useful in my case since these would primarily be used on flights.

I can let you know what I think of them after I get them.

My sister bought a $16 pair of bluetooth Mpow on-ear headphones in May 2018.

She really like them.

I haven't tried them out, as I don't care for on-ear headphones.

I know some Mpow headphones don't have a lot of bass, but I haven't researched the H12.

Which of your current headphones or ones that you’ve heard before deliver sufficient bass for your preference?

I’m just curious what your point of reference is.

From my own experience, the original AT ATH-M50 deliver the most bass, alas, most of the head-fi crowd frowns upon them because they feel this kind of sound signature is far from accurate. I still think they’re quite enjoyable if you like lots of bass. So for me, that is the point of reference for bass. I have yet to find any other headphone, wired or wireless, over-ear or IEM that would come anywhere close to that level of bass.

All of my over-ear headphones have enough bass.

This is what I have, from most favorite to least:

Marantz MPH-2, JVC HA-S680 and BossHiFi B8

I also have some IEM's that have enough bass:

KZ ZS7 and KZ ES4

Thought I had these, but mine are H17s, same vipon dealy.

Pretty nice, ’though noise-cancellation is less than stellar. My old Bose QC15s(?) would get eerily quiet, even with loud teevee noise in the background, but I didn’t notice much difference in the before/after with these.

Sounds quality’s pretty good, though.

Some of the cheapie Sennheisers had “extra bass” or “bass boost” or wotnahellever it was called. I had a pair (still do, but fiik where I put them) that were quite good. Nice “veil”, so “disappointing” high-end at first, but you can listen to them all day and not get ear-fatigue as you would with earmuffs that tout nice crisp highs.

I got a pair for something like 60bux at Best Buy once upon a time, so no idea what they might go for now.

All of those are wired, not wireless, though. Don’t forget that extra bass is especially power-hungry, which is why you need 250W woofers but 10W tweeters will suffice. Wireless and bass-heavy would probably require a coupla 18650s to get any decent runtime.

While I am no fan of Bose in general, their noise cancelling technology is one of the best in the business, AFAIK. I am not expecting the same level of performance from these cheap Mpows.

I ordered the TaoTronics TT-BH060 in the OP.

I also ordered this Bluetooth Transmitter:

https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Enjoyment/dp/B07MMSWY5B

It's not the best Bluetooth Transmitter available, but it may be the best under $25.

If I have trouble with either one, I'll return it.

Luckily I don't return things very often, so hopefully I won't get in trouble for doing so.

Update this on your impressions of them. I upgraded to a BT audio player that can handle FLAC files.

Will do!

I expect that if I like them, I'll like the sound quality and bass less than my wired over-ear headphones.

I just want something wireless and inexpensive, and fairly decent.

Many of these BT headphones sound better when fed signal through the wire for the reason Lightbringer mentioned - the internal amp isn’t very powerful to not drain the battery too quickly. When you connect the wire and use an external amp, depending on quality of the amp, they may sound better, alas, that kind of defeats the whole purpose of wireless headphones, but at least you’ve got options.

I guess you can compare when you get them.

I actually found some budget BT headphones that have plenty of bass, but the earpads cannot be replaced, and that's a dealbreaker for me:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Soundcore-Bluetooth-Headphones-Certified/dp/B07SHG4H92

Quick update: I just received the H12. Initial impression is that bass is great when fed power from an external headphone amp, but only so-so when playing via BT. Noise cancellation is decent. Turning ANC on, in addition to reducing noise also changes the sound signature quite a bit. To me, they do sound better with ANC on - bass and treble are better articulated.

They fit my average head on the shortest setting of the headband, so it looks like they’d fit a larger head as well; however, the ear cups aren’t particularly large, so if you have large ears, they may not fully fit over ears. They’re a bit too loose on my kid’s head. Gonna have to decide if I send them back or keep them until he grows up a bit.

Overall, pretty decent at this price point, but if they were for me, I’d want better bass via BT.

I had the H12 for only a week and upgraded to the H21. It was a drastic improvement in bass range and sound clarity. I also have Mpow sport wrap-around in-ear and single ear Bluetooth for different applications. I have to disagree with the opinions that hail the H12 for sound clarity and depth. I gave mine to my 88yo MIL, so she can watch TV without disturbing my wife and I. I’m certain her sound perception is deteriorated, so the clarity I missed in the H12 is unnoticed by her.

I don’t doubt the H21 is nicer, but I am trying to stay under $50.

BTW, I’m still eying the Soundcore Q20. Just waiting for them to go on sale…
