What aa light to buy

I'm looking at getting a new aa light to replace my leatherman monarch 400. Most likely going to run primary's or enEloop. What do you guys recomend. I'd like bright with decent run time

Have you looked at the unbranded Nitecore EZAA? I have this light for about a month. I can't say I fully recommend it, nor can I say I do not recommend it. This can be a good light for some. The light has a few shortcomings, although in general it's a pretty decent light for the price ($24). it's bright on high mode (there's only two modes). Look at the following threads for discussion. It may be worth checking out.

Wow looks real nice. I'll keep it in mind but I'd like a tail light switch if I can get it.

If you're looking for some bling you might try the trustfire f25. I have been most happy with mine, it's built very very well. Ive only ran it on 14500, so I don't have much experience with runtimes and such on other battery formats.

Single and double AA TANK007 TK-566 (with extention) is about $15 from DX, from what I have read in its pretty good.

I really like the ShiningBeam Caveman being a double AA XM-L... but I dont like the sounds of "loosen and tighten flashlight's head to change through the modes"

DQG AA, there's an open group buy for 25 usd.

great light, smallest AA on the market, very good driver and 14500 capable.

brightness on primary AA is just slight less than on 14500 (about 350-400mah to the emitter).

not having a switch (it's a "battery squeezer") makes it super reliable.

highly recommended!

zebralight is bright with decent runtimes

How about the Jetbeam BA10

Here is a review of the Jetbeam BC10 and BA20 by selfbuilt. The BC10(CR123) and BA10(AA) are same light and the heads are inter changeable.

I got mine for less than $30 from DinoDirect. You can get it for $32.99 with this coupon oneworldweshare

model or link?

zl sc51 and sc80 are aa lights

Well for brightness, the Xtar WK25B is about the brightest you will find on a nimh among budget lights. Unfortunately, that comes at the expense of battery life on high (45 minutes). On low, it should last you a good 14-15 hours. However, it is geared more for throw, so if you want something a bit more floody, I'd say the previously mentioned Jetbeam (more of a balanced beam) or the Xeno E03 (which is mostly flood).

Looks like you got more replies here than over there.

I stand behind my recommendation for the Xeno E03. It has been my EDC since the XML version came out.

xeno e03 is also my EDC

but the adjustable angle light will get more time ON than in pocket - stuck to some part of my car while I work on it, or clipped to my hat/belt while camping, etc.

the trust fire f25 looks pretty cool. im liking the GITD features of that light and the price also.

the tank007 doesnt seem that bright from what i was reading from the reviews and i will want to keep it single aa

i really do like the jet beam ba10 uts just a little higher in the price range than i was looking for. the same with both of the zebralights. the sc80 would be nice since it can use cr123 also but again a little high in price.

the

XTAR WK25B CREE XP-E R3 is nice since its more throw than flood so i will keep this one in mind

kbark- yeah it seems like i get a lot more replies here and having people post links is a lot nicer

ive been seeing a lot about the trustfire r5-a3 and the ultrafire u20. how do those compare?

Highly recommend the BA10 (shown in a picture in one of the above posts), I use mine a lot. I just got a Klarus ST10, and am very impressed with it as well. Either light should set you back about $40, but they are worth the money.

Yep, welcome to the way a real flashlight forum should be run.

trustfire r5-a3 and the ultrafire u20 have nice output, but quality from sample to sample can vary wildly. Some of the R5-A3's are actually pretty sad on nimh's and there seems to be various versions out there so you can never really tell what you will get. Build quality and reliability in general is a bit more risky with both of them. I'd go with the Xtar over either of them because of that and Xtar actually has CS that will actually respond to you. Bear in mind that the WK25B is not 14500 compatible should you ever decide to take the plunge, but you'll find that if you do that in the future, you will likely be looking for more lights anyway.

Thanks, kreisler.

Don't know how much you want to spend, but here's my recommendations (some of them already suggested):

Balder SE-1: comes in all flavors (XP-E, XP-G and XM-L). Will run with all AA sized cells/batts.

Xeno E09: XP-G and XM-L (neutral, warm or cold). Very sturdy light.

ITP SA1 - XP-E R2 or XP-G R5. Superb light, perfect CC regulation and works with any AA batt/cell.

JetBeam BA10/Klarus P1A - great quality, unknown runtime (haven't found any runtime test for this one :| )

XTAR WK25B/WK26
