Recommend Tools (tweezers are too weak for the job)

If there is already a thread about good tweezers, this is obsolete…
Thing is, I regularly open tailcaps and flashlights.
I have good tweesers from Shiningbeam I guess. They work but need something more sturdy.
From " recommend me something to buy" - thread there was a good link for 6 bucks clippers.
I could use a link to pliers with “tweeser-like” heads.
I’m thinkig some sort of Seger-pliers.
They should be of right size for opening tailcaps and retaining rings.
So to be more precise:
no need for tweezers because they bend, need something more sturdy.

I had your problem.. fixed with that smoothing the edges, are made of very solid ss, or can try that or that

avoid not WeiTus tweezers will fold

ofc fine clippers with the spring are the best option, I thought of solder a spring on my tweezers but i'm too lazy xD

You can try here for some SS tweezers.

+1

knowing the times of DX I would buy that instead.. can't imagine how many months will take dx with the excuse of spring festival xD

I mentioned these on another thread recently; they are what I use to remove switches from tailcaps:

http://www.harborfreight.com/5-3-4-quarter-inch-needle-nose-pliers-40696.html

They have very long and narrow jaws that come to a point. The quality is really inconsistent, but I have a Harbor Freight store locally and was able to dig through the bin and find a pair with a good nose. A bad pair could easily be worked into useable shape with a file if necessary. They work really well, and are much stronger than a pair of tweezers.

These seem more capable for the job.

Still searching for something like these from online stores, that are capable shipping it here:

I've never tried the snap-ring pliers like you are linking to. It was my intention to find a set of those to purchase for working on flashlights, but found the pair I linked to on sale much cheaper and bought them instead. I don't know what kind of stores you would have in your area, but I would imagine that any kind of tool/hardware store should have either type of pliers available...

Yep, they should have.

Last time I visited 3 stores, drove some 25 miles and spent 2 hours on it but no success. You see, I have a really bad luck when I set off "just to go to one store, get one small thing and BRB!" :D

They had SOME, but the right sizes or models were not present or they were sold out.

Circlip/snap ring pliers work very well. I got the ones I'm currently using from DX (You have to treat these as consumable items - the heads don't last long if you really need to apply force (Glued heads and the like)) and they are just fine.

I have other uses for mine and the cheapest ones work just as well as the most expensive ones and they all die when you need to apply a lot of force - the cheapies cost much less to replace.

But don't order anything from China for another three weeks. Most of the other Chinese dealers will have the same thing for around the same money - pick your favourite one and get a set.

I have a set of 6 snap ring pliers of varying types i picked up from Princess auto for <$20. Essential tools for taking apart flashlights. (good for snap rings too, lol)

Good idea on the old engineering calipers, they would work nicely.

For removing switches and unscrewing pills, i use hemostats. They work perfectly well, i haven't had an issue with the tips being too large on anything yet.

I find a good pair of elbow tweezers invaluable. Can't recall where I got mine years ago but they look like this. When removing tails or pills, you can use a thumb to keep the pressure down on the points and then rotate. The angle gives terrific leverage. In really tough cases you can use one hand to press down and the other to rotate.

take a look @ retaining ring pliers

a good tool or auto shop should have them

I've just bought some retaining ring pliers, good ones, but they have the needles too thick to fit anything. I will have to grind down just a bit of thickness and they should theoretically be good.

the one i have has different size "needles" that u can reverse (2 sizes on opposite ends of the changeable head)

I am not sure if this would help. It is specific for tail caps.

These are about what I was trying to say, thanks!

I got a good hint in PM where to get these locally, price is only 0,05€ higher so I´ll pass ordering online, but just for this one time!

Ok, nice, went to the shop to get these. Nada, empty shelf.

Other shop - the same (both 15miles away here).

Dag nabbit, been spending at least 3x the worth of these in just gas alone trying to find them!! They seem to run away from me, why?

Bought one of these:

Was it Anti-nowhereleague that recommended these, cannot see his posts anymore?
