AA Twisty with Long Runtime

I’m looking for a reliable, AA Twisty light with L-M-H interface, with an emphasis on long runtimes in L-M, and no mode memory (light always comes on in low.)

The current Maratac AA does:

Low Mode, 5 lumen output for 75 Hours
Medium Mode, 50 lumen output for 4.5 Hours
High Mode, 235 lumen output for 75 Minutes

Are there any AA Twisties out there with longer L-M runtimes?

not sure but try lumintop tool AA
they have a twisty version, with the magnet tail cap
at least it would be well made

another thought, you may be able to get a non-twisty light to work

if it starts on low, and you could leave the tail switch ‘on’, it might do what you want. if you twist it anyway

A while ago I created this thread. Maybe it has some answers for you, not necessarily in those conditions you’re searching for:

The tool would be pretty close to ideal, but sadly has mode memory.

Meanwhile Zebralight has perfect modes and runtimes for what I’m looking for, but is not a twisty:

1.2lm = 312hrs
30lm = 21hrs
122lm = 4.2hrs

Runtime depends on the cell you’re using, its natural capacity, how “fresh” it is, etc., so I don’t put much stock in claimed runtimes.

That said, I thought the Jet-I was pretty good.

Think the Jet-II (16340) has nomem, but the Jet-I has mem.

> AA Twisty

you might like the L10
I like the 4 mode model w Nichia LED

The runtime on that is terrible; 3 lumens x 30hrs, and doesn’t even list a runtime for the 30hrs setting.

I watched a pretty good youtube review of the Zebralight, and their runtimes were very accurate:

Sadly, the Tool 2.0 has memory:

I do not consider Maratac output and runtime specs accurate, by any stretch of the imagination… that is to say, they are notoriously overstated

try not to waste too much time comparing specs… buy a light and use it, and if you dont think its close enough to your dream, buy another one, and compare it

you will know more about lights by using them, than by reading online specs
I did that too, when I first started out here… it can be exhausting, frustrating, and essentially like spinning my wheels and going nowhere

imo, there is no magic flashlight that can run longer than any other, given they use the same battery and LED

it comes down to how bright the light is

therefore, the light with the lowest output will run the longest
that is why I suggested the 4 mode

plus, the light Im suggesting is High CRI
and that does not shorten the runtime, it only lowers the output

good luck with your search
and hang on to your wallet… the longer you hang around here, the more lights you will try :slight_smile:

I suggest you clarify what sort of minimum output level you want, and find a light that has it… forget about runtime… thats what spare batteries are for… :slight_smile:

I really like this as well as the L08 AAA version. I run the 4 mode for emergent long moon mode if needed but otherwise I prefer the functionality of the 3 modes better.
