AI cannot "invent" flashlights according to USPTO

quote:
“Last year, two relatively mundane patents—one for a shape-shifting food container and another for an emergency flashlight—posed an existential question for international patent regulations around the world:
Does an inventor have to be a human? These two inventions were the work of DABUS, an artificial intelligence system created by physicist and AI researcher Stephen Thaler.
Now, the USPTO has decided that DABUS and any other AI cannot be listed as an inventor on a patent filing.”

So then, who is the inventor? Everyone that wrote the program? The operator of the system?

If no one claims ownership in 48hrs, then I can proclaim myself to be Invention Boss and it’s mine.

Oh, wait, wrong thread…

Bummer, I would have liked to see SkyNet or SHODAN pitching to the investors on Shark Tank.

GlaDOS would be a fierce competitor with her unusual charisma.

“I just can’t see a portal gun succeeding in such a crowded market of non-euclidean devices. I’m out.”

Here’s a leak from the next season, this presenter clearly has confidence!
