Samsung LM302N NITE

Samsung has released a LED designed to minimize Melanopic Ratio, that is - to minimize its awakening effect.
It’s a 6V mid power LED so not very easy to use in flashlights but could see some use in lanterns and maybe nightstand lights.

  • standard 3030 mid power package
  • 1800K-4000K
  • CRI80 only
  • 6V only

Can someone explain what an “awakening effect” is?

Link to a specsheet?

Very interesting! Could definitely see this in a lantern!

Where is my mind?…I updated the first post.

Luminus explains it well:

I took a look at their 1800k in the datasheet. Seems like the E21A 2000K has less blue light than this.

I have a couple of those Luminus leds on order to check out, I like the concept.

Idea:
A lantern with Melatonin Ratio ramping. While the party is on, keep it high. On the closing, make it lower.

Though the difference ain’t huge. Samsung MR-maximizing emitters have the ratio about 50% higher than MR-minimizing ones (at the same CCT).
Lowering tint and reducing brightness has much better effect and doesn’t require sacrificing CRI…
