Thrunite T10T V2

First: I might upload pictures later.
Second: I received absolutely nothing in exchange for this review. I reviewed this on my own whim.

Got hold of a Thrunite T10T V2 today.
First things first. The light is shiny and gorgeous and - wait, “Cutlery Lover.” Okay, anyone have any advice to remove this?

Moving on…

The light is a tiny bit chunky. I think I’m a bit spoiled by my DQG Slim AA. Which this thing dwarfs in length and girth. The Thrunite is nearly as long as my OG Emisar D4 (comes to about where the bezel meets the head). The DQG feels like it could fit inside the battery tube of the Thrunite, though it doesn’t quite. The included clip isn’t the longest clip in the world, but it’s quite stiff and holds well. It’s occasionally difficult to un-/re-clip due to just how stiff it is. I’ve not knocked this one off the light, and I’ve attempted to simulate the conditions that usually cause the pocket clips to come off some other lights I own where that’s an issue. Sitting at the bottom end of the battery tube is deep enough of a carry for me.

The XP-L is sufficient. I might want to swap in 219B or Luxeon V2, but I’ve heard it’s tough to open. Otherwise, the tint isn’t awful - no Cree Rainbow or anything, and it’s the neutral white version.

The interface is actually pretty nice. There’s a quirk but I’ll get to that in a minute. The output is pretty standard AA stuff.

As usual for AA/14500 lights, this one has some quirks.
I really feel that this light is AA only for me. (NiMh, of course. No Alkalkeaks are gonna ruin my pretty titanium light…)

  • The moonlight mode disappears with 14500. (12 lumens for low, versus sub-lumen on NiMh.)
  • The UI changes with 14500: long-press with on switches between Med/High, which also means there’s no way back into low, because double-click still goes to high.
  • Sure 700 (or whatever) lumens is nice on high, but it’s not a light that can sustain that output and I need the moonlight more.
  • My example has an audible whine on medium with 14500. No whine is present on any other mode, nor on any mode with NiMh.
  • It also would appear to lack LVP on 14500 (thanks, Zeroair )

Really makes me appreciate the DQG: Output is the same (or close enough I can’t tell without testing equipment) whether I use NiMh or 14500. No whine, either. And it’s so much smaller.

Nice concise review, Scallywag.

With the symetry at the head, I find the smooth low profile button a little difficult to locate sometimes, particularly in the dark. What’s your experience?

It’s been a bit tricky. I lined the clip up with it, and it hasn’t moved, so I’ll probably just get used to that.

So, a correction for the UI: There appears to be have modes.
Low, medium, high, and turbo. The long-press will leave low and go to medium, and then toggle between medium and high. On NiMh, this is alright, because the medium is still pretty low (I’d guess lower than the “low” on 14500). On 14500 it’s still unbearable.
