Hi I bought a five pack of eneloop AAAs(8,66€), because I had no AAAs rechargeables.
After charging I have done a discharge test with B6 and at 1A until 0.9V I get around 600mAh
I haven’t tested all and not multiple times but I am confused a bit…
Is this a average result? I am confused because I counted with 700mAh…
Capacities are based on a 0.2C discharge, after a 16 hour charge at a rate of 0.1C. Under these conditions, all the AAA Eneloops I have tested (16 in total) exceed 800mAh.
I need 4 batteries for my marine VHF. I was looking at eneloop XX (newest gen), but then I found a review which stated that the XX have a slightly less voltage than the regular ones. My original battery is 6.0 volts, in any case I can’t achieve that with NiMh batteries.
Now I’m wondering, should I go for the slightly higher voltage regular eneloops, or should I choose the XX with their less voltage but 25% more capacity and almost twice the price? What do you think?

I would suggest you check the curves in my AA comparison (they basically have the same voltage).

Seems that my i4 isn’t able to charge them properly, strange as my experience with AAs said that all cells were charged nice with it…
I have done a 5cycle test with my B6 with 0.6A charge 5min rest 1A discharge and I got continuously 720mAh out of this torture…so the cells seem to be in good condition.
Hey guys. Sorry for sounding like an idiot but I just purchased a AA XX set with charger from Amazon and noticed that their part number illustrates that they are from the first generation eneloops (3UWXA) they also have the 4 ventilation holes. But the weird thing is the production date on the battery shows they are produced on 13-04 OC. Can someone shed done light on me please.
3 of my 4 original eneloops crapped during the last 3 months. They were 2nd gen. Never got to the advertised 1000 cycle time but it must have got at least 350-400 cycles of use. The head expelled some black powder in 1 cell and the 2 other cells had a somewhat waterish thick black liquid at the top.
I don’t know if my $5 ebay charger is to be blamed (it has cut off) or just plain day in day out use or draining it to a too low voltage that caused that.
Anyways, I will be soon in the market for a new set of eneloops so your valuable information will be well….INVALUABLE!
What amazon did you buy it from? .com? What’s the sellers name?
They don’t seem to be from the US. But if they are let me know.
Sure thing Buddy I’ll post some pics as soon as am back home.
They where purchased from Amazon.com and sold/shipped through them also. Plus delivery was fast till it arrived to my forwarding company in NY.

good to know this
1000 cycles is probably in perfect “lab” conditions… for example, perfect temperature, charging cells at .2c and discharging at 200ma, never overcharging or over discharging… of course real world is going to be something less
i would be satisfied if i got 350+ cycles
i have 8× 3rd gen aa cells coming today

Thanks, I guess the other graph I saw was not entirely accurate.
Edit:
Perhaps my i4 is not perfect for loading the AAA, I have charged one with my hobby charger and capacity was above 700 this time
I now let one discharge with 200mA which I had charged up with my i4.
I will charge the other 4 over night with another charger.
Yes, very strange graph. I don't trust that to be accurate at all
What do they mean with original? First gen?
Even first gen had more than that after sitting 3 years unused!

Sorry, because I am stupid I confused the chocolate ones with UOMOs. The UOMOS are indeed only 1-4. Sorry for the confusion.
Not much more info on the blog it’s from:
http://www.ae5x.com/blog/2012/02/10/three-generations-of-sanyo-eneloops-...
I actually asked the poster to delete the graph, because it looks deceiving.
But he didn't do it.
The batteries are measured Not after they were charged, like the XX.
So who knows how long they have been laying unused, or even used.
Or even coming straight out of the package. Eneloop doesn't charge them Full.
So it's better to delete the graph, so people don't take it as proof, for whatever reason, because it's not!!!!
WhY I said earlier. If you leave a first gen. untouched after a full charge it will have almost more mah. left after 3 years than this test.
And it doesn't sho the discharge current. Not even mentioning it's done the same current with all of them.
Don't trust that graph.

I am not sure how it is with charger bundles but on normal retail packages there is the manufacturer date printed on the retail packages back, too.
The only thing I can say, is that they are sold in China. The production date seems a little weird to say the least.
In April 2013, Panasonic already switched to the 3rd gen XX in Japan.
So where Chinese shops get first generation XX manufactured in Japan from, is a mystery.
That's all I can say.
Do you have some close up pics of the cells and the date stamp?
