DEFT EDC vs Small Sun ZY-C10-S

I know this is a bad picture. I just wanted to show you the beams and the small sun beam is brighter than the DEFT EDC

haha, that's great, my zy-c10 should be here in a week or two

Are you serious?

I thought the DEFT was over 100K CP ?

they claim 40k https://omglumens.com/DEFT-edc.php

based on the numbers in the zyc10 thread it isn't brighter...so there's a problem w/ that EDC, or you got exceptionally lucky w/ your zyc10 lens!

anyway, I'm just thrilled that I'll have a light that can be compared to it AT ALL

I hope to resist modding my first zyc10s...but if I like it I'll be ordering another and that will get the works.

Thanks for the correction, dthrckt....I was thinking of the original DEFT.

Small Sun ordered.

did you go w/ MF or DX? I hope manafont - it took DX over a month to ship mine...of course, now maybe they actually have stock...

actually, now I'll correct myself

viffer indicates zyc10s stock lux is about the same as deft-EDC. Not too surprising, since it has a bigger lens. I was recalling from memory the 33kcd figure for his modified version (xml and thicker lens)

Given the choice between the two, I almost always go MF.

Has anyone seen pics of the DEFT EDC LR setup? I'm looking for photos of the "LR" part.

There’s some differences depending on the light meter and the luck of the draw with the driver too I suppose.
I get roughly 30Kcd for my ZY-C10-S and as mentioned the DDFT EDC is supposed to be 40kcd.
Rikr, did you measure the beam with a light meter?
This is a good deal regardless of the exact numbers IMO. It’s $14, doesn’t look like a zoomie to me and has the best beam of all my aspherics.
This is why I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on a $100 DBS-T with aspheric head with it’s measured 90kcd. It costs 6 2/3 times as much but only throws 70% more and is even bigger of course.

No I don't have a light meter I had both lights on the arm of my chair and aiming them at the wall. I also have the Dereelight DBS V3 with the EZ900 and there is no comparison the DBS is in a class of it's own. I would not hesitate pulling the trigger on a Dereelight but maybe go with the " T " model comes all ready to go and I talked to Jay at F.C and he said same throw just the T can be 1 mode.

EDIT: gcbryan

Thank you..

From looking at all your lights I can see that you don’t hesitant regarding pulling the trigger on any light
If I get one it will be the T version already set up. I just don’t know that I have a real need or use for more throw than the ZY-C10-S provides.
I do like the fact that the DBS is about as good as you can get in a thrower of that size.
Nice light collection by the way!

I’m going to go back and read that ZY-C10-S thread. After reading this thread today however I went outside tonight to get a proper light reading tonight of my ZY-C10-S and I got 52kcd!
I used a newly charged battery (18650) and did the test at 10 meters and factored back to 1 meter. This means that the DBS aspheric at 90kcd (at about $100) would only throw 33% further than this $14 light.
I really can’t justify purchasing the DBS under these circumstances. It’s output would be better regulated but I don’t use a thrower like this for long at a time anyway. I’m just amazed that a $14 light can do this well and look pretty good at the same time.
If Smallsun comes out with a version of this light with an optic diameter equal to the DBS the results would be even closer and I’m sure the Smallsun price wouldn’t be any more than $20-$25.
I think I’ll just wait until their next related product comes out.
The DBS would be roughly $100 + $10 for an extension tube for 18500. I’d then have to spend another $20 at BatteryJunction for the (2) 18500 batteries for a total of $120.
