I was really close to getting either the Xtar VC2S or VC4S. I liked the features - tells me mAh to charge but can also do discharge test to tell me the mAh discharged. Being able to take a cell down to storage level voltages (3.7V) is nice. But it automatically selects charge current, and seems to charge really quickly. It has problems charging NiMH - charges at 1A!
I’m never really in a huge hurry to charge batteries.
Is there another charger I should consider that is somewhat like the VC2S or VC4S in terms of giving you info about battery health, but can charge slower?
I’ve also considered the Nitecore UM2. It doesn’t do discharge mAh. Is discharge mAh that different than charge mAh for judging battery health? I don’t necessarily need to know absolute numbers, just if a cell is starting to become not useful.
Miboxer C4 Plus & 12 have selectable charging per slot, and do Liion, NiMh, and LiFePo4. It just doesn’t do discharge capacity reading.
The VC2S doesn’t do discharge. The VC2 only does .5A charging. I use both here.
The Xtar VC8 is like an Xtar VC4S in terms of features, but additionally allows manually adjusting charge currents (250mA, 500mA, 1A, 2A, 3A). Although the charge current applies to 4 slots.
The VC8 (8-slot charger) can be thought of as 2 chargers with 4 slots each. The left group of 4 slots has the same features as the Xtar VC4S (charge, capacity/discharge test, storage mode) while the right group of 4 slots has only charging function. Each group can have seperate function (the right group can only charge - and allows selectable charge current, although the selected charge current applies to all 4 slots). The left-hand group of 4 slots can have a different charge current (again, same charge current for all 4 slots in that group; with charge current as mentioned above - from 0.25A, 0.5A up to 3A if only 1 slot charging and using a QC2 power supply).
