olight O'Pen 2 - the revolutionary lighting pen

i think it's a must-have. so awesome and beautiful. let's cereblate!!

...erh.. looks like one cannot write with it in the dark

lol

I like how you can use it while its clipped on your shirt pocket.

It does look like crap.

Plus the design of swirls is only seen on Fellhoelter pens. They could at least design its own pattern. And bolt action....? Seriously?

#foursevens

Olight is sinking more and more, no wonder it's not welcome here that much...

But at least Olight fans are usually 4X4 type of guys as i read it somewhere, not aware of CRI and interchangeability, Legoing...only how painted Olight lights will be. LOOOOL

As far as olights go i think this will sell pretty good.
At least it’s something new and not a ‘rare color’ promo.
I’m not personally interested but the price seems decent for combing a few things people are into spending money on.
I like that the light separates from the pen part at least

Let’s not pretend that spiral cuts or bolt action pens are all that unique, not to mention that the FourSevens/Olight partnership that could very well have left Olight with leftover designs, if not tooling. I’m no fan of Olights in general, but there’s no need to act like they are the worst thing in the world. Olight’s choice to push for higher output at the expense of CCT/CRI may not be ideal to some enthusiasts, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. And as far as lego-ing goes, that applies to nearly any brand not directly aimed at us as a demographic.

Well said but still they suck. Have 4 Olights just for the record and they are well overpriced and crucial components lacks quality but that is something you cannot say out loud cause you’ll get “punished” publicaly. Screw that and their products.

And with this “product” they just confirmed what are they at the end of the line, chinese company stealing ideas. Yuck!

Seriously?

Show a little respect for someone else’s opinion on a penlight, and try not to be so obvious about your disdain for Olight products. You come off as being a little childish, when you do.

Olight makes the best valued weapon lights I have found.
I have 5 of them. I also have an over-priced Surefire, that cost hundreds more, and does much less.
Yes, I too dislike how Olight has gravitated towards proprietary batteries, but I still like the older ones that allow me to use button tops, but lose the on board charger capabilities.
As far as CRI goes, meh…., I see the use for higher CRI, in certain circumstances. But I don’t do photography, so I wouldn’t need the perfect color rendering, and my own eyes don’t care, being that I have glaucoma.

And ALL of my 6 vehicles are 4x4/AWD, and I like most Olight products. So in your opinion, what does that say about me?

And that ^^^^ ladies and gentlemen is how Olight boys take critics...

Respect toward opinion? What did i say disrespecting somebodies opinion beside explaining mine?

Just keep up with good work. Luckily Olight fanboys are not so active.

Maybe something is getting lost in your translation?

Could it be that your comments wouldn’t be interpreted as childish, if they were conveyed in Croatian?

Maybe... or maybe you can’t do better. Croatian...you know your beloved Ocrap is made in China, right?

Let’s continue over PM further discussion. Let’s not interfere with OP’s thread.

+1. B$ to me.
Mike

Just about every single “BLF approved” light is made in China. Exceptions are pretty much craft made lights like Hanko’s (hardly budget) or SureFire, which is far worse than Olight when it comes to compatibility, LED options, moddability, etc. and still extremely expensive spec for spec.

I, uh.

Hmm.

I can’t envision a use case for this. Perhaps we can try to conjure up a formal dress-code event where all you can take is your pen-light. Not that I’m sure a bolt-action pen-flashlight would fit in there, either, but let’s run with it.

Are there not classy, compact EDC lights that could still attend? Especially something small (AA/AAA) in Titanium or something. Heck, I’d at least throw my Hobi+ on my keyring. Or would the valet have that? No wait, I’d have a valet key, that doesn’t open the glove compartment. Right, right…

As for Olight as a whole. The weapon lights are interesting, because they seem to primarily compete with Streamlight’s offerings, and honestly do pretty well there. But I feel like they charge Zebralight prices for quality lower than Zebralight. And for offering crap tints/CRI, they also make it quite difficult to open for LED swaps. The whole limited-run colors and edition things… well, they’ve gotta eat. One could argue some of Hank’s Ti runs have been limited editions. Lumintop is doing limited edition stuff.

Their current UI isn’t bad. Their proprietary battery stuff is arguably pretty bad. They have their silly optic they use, which I actually kind of like the beam pattern from my S1, but they leave plastic optics open to scratches. At least some of their lights do a weird negative (-) battery pole toward the head thing, but fine whatever. I think it’s not cool that they’ve already had proprietary charging styles that they’ve phased out, and it’s reportedly tough to get cables for those lights now.

I don’t think Olight fans are stupid or less in any way. I do observe a trend in which Olight enthusiasm peaks at a certain introductory level of flashaholism and declines thereafter. This is probably for some combination of the factors critiqued above, but I haven’t really been out surveying.

i have maybe 4(?) small olights but generally i am no fan.
this penlight has built in battery so you don’t need to go out and look for (and lose) a new chinese virus battery. it’s just genius imho.

and when it’s dark and you want to write something on a piece of paper like a police officer on duty, you can’t because the light isn’t shining down on the paper. i think that’s chinese virus genius too. loving it.

the looks of the product don’t matter because the product is all about functionality: writing , and shining. just awesome.

lol that pen is sooo lame.
looks like that covid stay inside bs affected ppls common sense

instead of coming up with useless lamey products, they could do something useful and original
like a rugged baseball bat flashlight.
or a good keychain flashlight, because all existing keychain flashlights suck

absolutely nothing wrong with the Ultratac K18 stainless steel version (with rubber or metal capped switch) imho. 10180.

By just looking at it I can point out a fatal flaw that will render this useless as a pen:

The bolt action mechanism is located at the middle, which means unless you have baby hands or hold it at a very unnatural position, the tip will come out right at your palm and smear ink all over. It will also create a very uncomfortable hotspot while writing unless you position the “bolt” outwards every time.

I have medium sized hands and this is deploying the Refyne EP1 at the most natural position. If the pen was 0.5” shorter, the tip would come out where the pinky finger wraps.

This seems to please the niche of guys who have 3 different bugout emergency bags filled with tacticool stuff and impractical survival gear.

Olight is crap.

Olight makes the highest quality lights I’ve seen and I own over 300 flashlights. I just don’t understand all these bs people are spitting out about Olight. Name me another brand with better quality. I’m not saying this because I like Olights because their tint sucks and they don’t offer NW or HI CRI, which I’ve been trying to get them to do. But just speaking the truth. Quality wise, no other flashlight brand in existence beats Olight.

And Olight fans are usually 4X4 type of guys, as id30209 read somewhere.

He must have crossed paths with an Olight Fanboy, who called him a Surefire Fanboy, and tried to drive over his Vespa, with their 4x4.
