[SOLVED] HELP - D11.2 died after a few seconds on Li-Ion

Hi,

I just received a D11.2 today. It worked fine on Ni-Mh. I then decided to test it on Li-Ions.

It worked the first time I turned it on and after a few seconds (less than 5) I turned it off. When I tried to turn it on again it blinked quickly. And then it died.

Nitecore's website states: "Broad voltage fully regulated circuit - compatible with numerous battery chemistries such as Li-ion and NiMH" so I refuse to believe it was the Li-Ion.

I have:

  • removed the battery;
  • re-inserted the li-ion;
  • tried a rechargeable;
  • tried a duracell primary;

It is dead....

EDIT:

The light is really dead. HKEquipment was very helpful, a replacement is on it's way and the issue is now considered solved.

It happens.

Driver is toast.

Contact who you bought it from.

Since it said it could handle 4.2V they'd better replace it with one that can.

wonder if you shorted the emitter ...I had the same issue with a trustfire ..worked a lil sporaticlly on AA..stuck in a l-ion and poof ...Like it just needed that extra voltage to finish the short .. no insulator disc on the trustfire ..:(

let them know you got a bad one ...It happens and it usually happens pretty quickly too .

Toast?

Are you sure? On a Nitecore? Are there multiple versions of D11.2's or just lousy quality control?

This was supposed to be indestructible...

EDIT: Boaz, there is no visible damage to the emitter.

I contacted HKEquipment. Let's just hope they pay for the shipment back to them, since it it very expensive to ship from Brasil....

What kind of battery and where did the light come from ?

I've never met an indestructable light

tomorrow i am going to send a light back to HKE too.

SashiX would know which one.

MountainKing too.

;)

The battery was a Trustfire protected - battery is pristine, no damage, no exposed contact points. Battery still works and is charged.

The light came from HKEquipment.

lol :bigsmile: You send it for a totally different reason :bigsmile:

Yeah, send it back. I spoke to nitecore and you can run a 14500 on it, although it will get hot and eventually tear up the led. Seems like the buck boost is ****ed up. Nitecore has really let me down as of late. Mainly with their d11 pocket clip accessory. It's a joke. I've bought two of them and each time the clip has zero tension and I can't tighten the screws to 100 percent because they strip easy. I've brought this to their attention numerous times and they still haven't offerred any resolution. I just sent another email to them tonight as it was again brought to my attention when I picked up the d11 to use tonight. Thumbs down.

At any rate, your dealer should take care of it. I still love my e11 and d11, but all I hear are problems with these lights.

Nitecore has been well know for lousy quality control as of late. Really sucks as they used to make good lighting products..

Well after getting off of my soap box, I remembered as a last ditch effort, you can check to make sure the gold color contact is nice and tight. Try turning it with something that fits in the little slot. I'm sure it's a defect with the buck boost circuit, but worth checking.

14500's are slightly larger than an eneloop. If it has a pcb.

Nice to finally hear it from someone else besides me ...I'd take an older light compared to the newer ones 3 to one ...I know they got bought out and i hope for the best ...I'm just not holding my breath at this point .

Nitecore shot themselves in the foot when all of their fan base screamed and begged for the return on the original U.I. They screwed around long enough for everyone who loved the brand to get 100% fully frustrated ,shrug and walk away .all for no reason .

really stupid

Sysmax after buying the company has put out some pretty bad lights

Unfortunately, sending it back will cost me 21,7 dollars. I am really disappointed. I got hooked on flashlights after a few problems with DX - and they were all solved by DX simply sending a replacement at no cost for me. KD had the same behavior.

So I got brave and decided to buy an expensive flashlight. And this is what I get. Instead of a bigger apology - after all, in my expectations, there should be better service with larger prices - I get two options:

- A US$ 57 aluminum tube

or

- A US$ 79 flashlight I may never trust...

Every advice is welcome.

I suggest you get mean and threaten to give them negative reviews on a few forums. Make them eat the shipping. Perhaps ship to a local dealer in the same country as you. They in turn ship back to nitey core.

Hi Duro,
no threats from me.

I'll keep posting the saga. As long as the word gets out that more expensive flashlights are not necessarily dependable/well built/guaranteed I'll consider myself happy.

Just wondering how many others had problems with expensive brands and are keeping quiet.

I know from experience. If you send them a professional email and bark loudly, and continue to do so, they will address it. I'm still going after them for their crappy pocket clips they sell as an add-on for the d 11. It's no where as near as tight as my e11, and the clip screws strip, making it impossible to tighten and install the clip correctly. I've bought two clips from them and they suggest I mail the light back to a dealer to have one installed. No, that won't work, their screws strip. So, I will live without a clip for my d11. But first they have to send me a replacement battery compartment to make up for the one that's all scratched due to installing the crappy pocket clip....I'm still working on it....

I have 2 of those clips and love 'em (both ordered from lightjunction). Neither stripped and I got them very tight.

To the OP, why isn't HKE doing a normal RMA? Keep pressing and let us know how it goes. I had bad luck on my first D11.2 but the U.S. seller took care of it quick.

Be advised of the problems that I encountered with a brand new D11.2 R5

Product; Nitecore D11 V.2 R5
Serial#; US9E0919 00157
Problem; Out Of Box Failure.
Description; The led flash's on and off, or the led ramps up and down, and sometimes it works.

The D11 V.2 R5 came with 6 manufacturing defects;

1. The floating contact ring is badly deformed. One end of the ring is protruding upward, ~4mm above the component side of the circuit board.
2. The floating contact ring has a LARGE burr at each end, the ring can't move freely.
3. The spring inside the piston is deformed, it will compress on top of it's own loops.
4. Solder spatter located near the led, also found solder spatter on the component side of the PCB.
5. Solder flux was never removed from the circuit board after soldering operations.
6. The led is off center.

Inspection results; It is what it is.

Who did you buy it from, and did you exchange for a new one?
