ENERGIZER 2300 PRECHARGED

Has anyone else noticed the Energizer greentop (made in Japan) 2300mah batteries at Walmart now have precharged listed in the lower left had corner. I'm wondering if it is fairly recent as there were some there without the precharged listed.

I have noticed before when purchasing the Energizer 2300mah greentop battery that they seem to come holding a charge right around 1.3 volts.

I charged some up and compared them to my Eneloops, they tend to hold a higher voltage on average throughout the discharge cycle. Not much, but consistently throughout the cycle. They also seem to test out around 2150mah and are very consistent from one battery to the next. Maybe more so than the Eneloops.

This might be a true competitor at last. I'm probably late to the party on this but haven't noticed anything posted about the Energizer 2300mah batteries being LSD or precharged.

By no means am I up-to-date or an expert on any of this, but my understanding was that "Pre-charged" was code for LSD batteries.

Are they made in China or Japan?

As stated in the first line of my original post they are made in Japan. All greentop Energizer batteries I've seen are of Japanese manufacture while the blacktop are from Chinese.

Jeez, right in front of me. Text is small when reading on my phone.

I haven't heard of Energizer going the precharged route yet and there is nothing on their website or at Amazon. Are you sure these aren't Rayovacs? [Nevermind, found them]

I see listings of them on ebay and amazon

Okay, thanks. I didn't find them before, but see them now. I haven't been impressed with Energizer rechargeables in the past, but maybe these are better.

I agree, the old Energizer 2500mah made me think nimh rechargeables were garbage. I didn't know at the time they were made in China. So far I'm impressed with these 2300s.

Here is a picture of the packaging and two batteries:

All of the greentop batteries I've seen have been made in Japan and these state that on the packaging and battery.

The old packaging looked just like this but didn't have the word "PRE-CHARGED" in the bottom left corner.

Some older packaging I found said it would hold a charge for "up to six months" and now they say "up to one year" but that's still a far cry from holding 75-85% of their charge for one year like most LSD's. I hope these are LSD, but most LSD's talk about the percentage charge they hold after one year. Non-LSD batteries with some additional capacity (maybe 2800mAh vs. 2000) are really only good for people who go through batteries every day or every week. Even then I think most LSD batteries can be cycled more times.

Found a good page here that tests Japan Energizers and a lot of other LSD batteries, though only for 7 weeks.

brted,

I have to agree with you and that is one reason I was checking to see if anyone else had experience with these cells. For all we know maybe they just charged the cells up and called them "PRE-CHARGED".

My tests so far mirror the ones in your link with the exception of each cell had over 1500mah right out of the package. They averaged 1.17volts for the duration and were discharged to .9v on a Triton2 EQ.

My initial test duration of 4 weeks rest and discharging at 1amp provided 1949mah and 1981mah respectively for the two batteries tested.

Fully charged and rested for at least an hour 12 batteries averaged 2130mah when discharged at 1amp. Best part was average voltage for the entire cycle was 1.19volts. My Eneloops average out at 1830mah and 1.17volts using the same test parameters.

For my flashlight use this is great as I usually charge them at least once a month. The old Energizer nimhs were lucky to have any juice left after a week. I didn't test then like I do now but when using the old 2500mah Energizers in a camera if they didn't come straight off the charger we were lucky to get 5 pictures.

I have seen similar battery on Bauhous home market in Istanbul. It states precharged, do not know the origin.

I have 4 of these batteries that I bought about 6 months ago. So far I have found them to be good batteries and they seem to hold their charge as good as most others I have tried. I didn't realize that they were made in Japan until you posted this and I checked them. As I recall, I mine were not charged very much when I first bought them.

I have a 4 pack of them. They are no better than my 2000ma Eneloopes but don’t seem any worse either. Seem to be on par with them but I haves done any in depth testing.

I think one common problem with Energizer rechargeables is that people recharge them in crappy Energizer chargers. So if you take care of them, maybe they are okay.

Even 50% charge after a year isn't bad.

I suppose just the alkaline batteries of Duracell and Energizer are made in the USA anymore, huh? I guess I was giving them more credit than they deserved :P
