Battery for convoy C8+ SDT40

I’ve just ordered a convoy c8+ from China.

I don’t know a lot about flashlights. Just want a little advice on batteries.

It says max output current is 5000 mA. So does that mean that it will only draw 5 amps from the battery?

So I could pretty much use any battery I wanted rated say from 10 amp or higher ?

I vape and mainly use Sony vtc5a or Samsung 30q.

If this flashlight is only drawing 5amp max I could even use protected cells if I wanted?

Like I said I don’t know much about flashlights. So need to be pointed in the right direction. Thank you

The thing about batteries is that:

Assuming the battery rating is correct (use the manufacturer rating, not the battery rewrapper’s rating), the rating seems to refer only to the battery can be discharged at that ampere rating safely without overheating.

However, there are also other things that we are interested in, when using batteries in a flashlight — how much voltage sag the battery has when applied a certain amount of current (eg. 5 Amps).

So while a Panasonic NCR18650B is rated at 5 Amps and can safely be used on the Convoy C8+ SST40, it will have more voltage sag, then using something like a Samsung 30Q (rated at 15 Amps).

There are also some other factors, like: less voltage sag will usually make for a slightly brighter beam of light from the flashlight.
So, using the Panasonic NCR18650B on a Convoy C8+ SST40 that draws 5 Amps, the effecitve voltage might be lower than when using a Samsung 30Q on the same flashlight. This results in a bit higher brightness, but will also result in a bit hotter flashlight.

It’s a bit difficult to generalize what battery will do what in which flashlight, but I think Samsung 30Q is one of the more popular batteries to be used for flashlights. (I think Sony VTC5A is a bit too much since it’s more expensive and has less capacity — ie. will have a bit less runtime, while just gaining slightly more brightness, and may generate a bit more heat).
