Should I use red Loctite?

There were two small blobs of red glue holding a ring around the LED in my Lumintop Tool AA 2.0. I removed the ring and swapped the LED. The ring now just sits on the PCB and is held down by the reflector.

Should I get some Loctite 263 from a local hardware store and use that?

Is there something more appropriate when working near an LED?

I wouldn’t worry about it being loose (though I haven’t specifically tried modding that light before).

In all the lights I’ve opened up, centering rings/insulation discs haven’t been glued down in any way - they just sit around the LED and are held down by the reflector. Unless it keeps sliding around a way that prevents you from reassembling the head, I wouldn’t bother trying to glue it again.

Once I had a gasket that didn’t fit. Used two drops of UV glue to fix it, but eventually replaced it with one that’s good. For pictures see the OTR i3 thread.

Whatever you take - see that it cures completely before reassembling the head. You will not want to have any substances on the reflector.

Sir many here are far more experienced than I am. I suggest the blue Loctite if you use any. My experience with red was in a machine shop. Red usually took heat to break down and was tough.

Might be the same glue that is used to keep components at their place during wave soldering. Maybe they had problems with assembly (pick and place machine? vibrations?).

If you can assemble it without that glue you don’t need it.

It’d probably make things a little easier when trying to screw the pill back into the head of the Tool AA 2.0 with a reflector balancing on top of it. But, yeah. I have managed to assemble it a few times without glue.

I dont see a need to glue the centering ring.

ime centering rings tend to stay where I put them, long enough to thread the pill into the head.

I dont balance the reflector on top, it stays in the head, and I start the pill by screwing in sideways, so the reflector does not fall out.

neither of the two AA copper tools Ive modded had any glue on the centering ring. None of my other lights have any glue on the centering rings either.
