Block or hide posts

Is there a way to block or hide a user's posts? I don't see an option for it, I have used this site much because of spam. Would prefer it on the server and not stylus, since its only applies to a device I use.

This is the only way that I know of, and I have not used this method so I don't know if it works:

Seems like a recurring issue…

Sorry that is my own topic again, I forgotten about it... but it would be a really nice feature. I was confused how to do it but I installed userstyles on here and did it, but its per device... its a bit annoying it's not tied to account.

Could always just pick a fight with the user, then be just slightly less toxic than he is so that he gets banned and you don’t.

No?

I also wish BLF had an Ignore feature, like CPF does…

Like you, I use Stylus here on BLF, to build my own Kill file

but an Ignore feature would be easier, and would be part of my site specific login settings, not device specific as you noted

in any case
Im glad you at least managed to get Stylus working… its not easy, but its simple… LOL

I don’t know about blocking users (that implies a toxic culture) but I’d like to be able to ignore or filter threads. I.e. if there is a thread about XYZ flashlight, that’s fine, there’s nothing unpleasant about it, I just don’t have that light and don’t need to have that thread keep popping up in “recent posts”, so I’d like to be be able to filter it from recent posts. Nothing against XYZ but I happen to have chosen ZYX.

I found another way to do it. Use ublock origin. There should be a section to select post by and then post by. When you open the user page you can see it the template is this. I used my own number as an example.

##.posted-by-.en.clearfix.forum-post

##.posted-by-16368.en.clearfix.forum-post

Unfortunately its not global, but if you sync it with chrome extensions it can kind of be.

This is what I see when I open UBlockOrigin
.

where in the menus shown do you go to enter a user block?

Just where you are add a new line:

budgetlightforum.com##.posted-by-USERID.forum-post

Replace USERID with the user ID you want to block (open the profile of that user and look at the URL).

Hi there Lick, sorry there’s no built-in option to ignore a user, that’s not possible with this forum software.

Could you clarify what you’re referring to here? Thanks a lot.

thanks!
I would like to use the blocking on reddit, I tried this:
www.reddit.com/##.posted-by-runner_1005.forum-post (just an example, I dont really want to block that particular user, its just a test)

but it does not work, yet
can anyone tell me what is missing in that line of code?

Meanwhile, Reddit has its own blocking, it works fine. It will collapse a post by a blocked user. I can choose to open it if I want to. CPF has its own blocking too, and also shows the post collapsed, with the option to open it.

My thought has always been ...Gee wouldn't it be nice to have such a person's comments highlighted in a certain color so that if I decided to read their comments I could so as to keep context and at the same time pass over a myriad of what I consider useless and unnecessary ones from a repeat offender. Blocking someone's posts entirely would as people have suggested lead to more confusion and more confusing posts .

It might be nice not just to highlight someone you don't want to read, but to have a color for people whose comments you are looking forward to seeing and read . Sort of like a special ring tone on your phone .

I need a Foy alert

jon_slider, it doesn’t work on Reddit because it’s a filtering rule specific for this site. Right click at the blue header of a post and select “inspect” (depends on your browser). It will open the dev tools and jump right to the definition in the HTML source. There you will see a

class="..."

attribute that specifies classes “describing” that element. It contains a

posted-by-12345

class that is generated by the forum software. Now you tell uBlock to hide all elements with this class. Reddit on the other hand doesn’t have these classes, thus it doesn’t work.

Boaz, you can do that easily with user styles. There are several browser addons that allow you to add your custom CSS style sheets to a website. There just add matching CSS rules like

.forum-post.posted-by-12345 {
  opacity: 0.5;
}

Thanks again, I will stop wasting our time.

Use RES for reddit.

thanks

I installed RES and figured out how to tag a users posts with a green box, but could not figure out how to Block a user…

so I went back to using the privacy and security settings.

hover over a user and “ignore”, their posts are invisible and their comments auto collapsed, and apparently there is a more severe option

ok, thanks, I guess my iMac is just not going to work that way

hovering over a user does not offer an ignore… this is what I see:
.

there is no “ignore” option

but really, I give up… I dont like feeling like an idiot
I realize youre just trying to help, but the info is so incomplete, that I keep hitting a wall…

thanks for trying to help

Ah yes that’s probably because you’re using the new (default) reddit UI, I think RES integration is incomplete with it, though I don’t know exactly since I only use the old UI ,the new UI is just terrible.
