XML2 vs. XML3

The XML3’s have been out awhile but I haven’t seen them used much.

I have swapped out the cold white XML1s and 2s from most of my classic flashlights with NW XML2’s(years ago) and I was wondering if its worth it to upgrade to the new XML3’s?
Most of the past upgrades were for tint more than anything. Getting rid of that early issue blut tint XML’s.

Not interested in swapping the drivers, just the LEDs. Are they that much brighter and more efficient?

Thanks!

I’ve not seen or used an XM-L3, but Googling them, they look similar to the XP-G3. Which I have in a Convoy C8, but it does have quite a corona around the hot spot. Ok outdoors, but not very nice inside or white wall hunting.

Not worth the effort likely. Maybe equivalent to one flux bin higher in most cases. Nothing revolutionary. Tint potentially is worse with the new phosphor design

The XML3 comes in with a lower vf, so it’s more efficient and gets brighter at a lower current than the XML2. More in line with the sst40 than XML2. The drawback is the beam is worse than both. As mentioned there’s Corona and tint shift- although not as ‘bad’ as 2nd gen xhp or xpg3, and it’s only cool white.
