C8 went boom!

A couple years back I built a custom Convoy C8 for a buddy of mine. Not a flashaholic but he knows how to take care of things. He uses used this C8 all the time until recently it turned up missing.

Fast forward to this weekend and he went to light his charcoal grill. He did so in the dark because he was missing his trusty flashlight. And moments later… BOOM!

Come to find out, his lost C8 somehow made it’s way into his charcoal. I have no idea how. Thankfully he’s ok.

Friendly reminder… be careful folks! Lithiums are great but mistakes don’t end well. This is what is left of that C8.

I don’t remember, does the recipe call for Lawry’s salt or lithium salt? I guess I’ll try both…

Warranty excludes damage caused by screaming hot barbeques, two year olds, or shark bites.

I dont believe this damage happend because of lithium battery. looks more like moab fell on it.

I am curious what cell was that, brand and model I mean.
How old was the cells also?

Perhaps brand new GrillFire or HouseOnFire cells bought on Alli?

Really hope the BBQ wasn’t damaged. A good grill is like part of the family.

The story is highly suspicious. He was lighting his charcoal grill in the dark? The flashlight that he needed was in the grill? Was he able to put it all back together will gorilla glue.

From that pic, I think it’s far so much powerful explosion than I thought it’s from single 18650 li-ion.
