Convoy L6 - need recommendation for replacement driver board

I need a replacement for a dead driver board for a Convoy L6. Can someone recommend a replacement? (No, my problem is not the tailcap ring, or dead batteries, or batteries that can’t handle the current, or flat-top batteries that are not making a good connection…).

I see “6-8.4V FX-30 Driver For Convoy L6 XHP70 LED Flashlight” on AliExpress, but I want to believe that something made by one of the freaks (I mean that in the best way possible) at BLF is going to be higher quality. Problem is, every link I’ve been able to find for that kind of thing so far seems to be dead. The one exception is Matt at Adventure Sport, who (obviously) runs a Real Company. But the product info page for the driver board on his site doesn’t state explicitly that it will work as a drop-in replacement in the L6. (Yes, I’ve contacted him using the form on his web site, but I’m also asking here to see if there are other options!).

I don’t care too much about modding the light or trying to crank the lumens way up, I just want the damn thing to work again. But if I get add’l options for pumping out more light, I’m fine with it.

For anyone that’s interested… I did try to initiate a return through AliExpress (I actually wanted an exchange, not a refund, but that doesn’t seem like an option). I ended up only getting a partial refund because I missed a deadline. Apparently, AliExpress doesn’t always notify you when the seller has responded, so at one point I waited too long to respond. Lesson learned on that one - when going through their dispute resolution process, check for messages on AliExpress EVERY DAY…

It's nice of you to join us, DefiantlyNotLarryEllison!

I had never heard on Larry Ellison until now.

I even attended San Jose State, and knew some people that worked at Oracle, so I clearly don't know my billionaires.

I’m guessing the one from Banggood will work ok for stock replacement.

JasonWW did a mod 3yrs ago that will give you a sense of doing it yourself.

It does not appear that Matt has a driver for a L6. The 17mm driver will not drop in, the L6 takes a 30mm diameter driver.

Here is a 30mm FET driver designed for the L6 from Mountain Electronics.

Welcome to BLF.

When the L6 first came out (IIRC) Matt was selling mod parts and fully built modded lights. I would consider him to be the best source for an OEM part.
With 3rd party / open source builders I would be worried about PWM on low modes.

IMHO the L6 was a revolutionary light from a lumens per dollar standpoint, with a great UI, no PWM and quality fabrication + materials. I still use mine all the time.

Good luck with your repair.

Mine has a 8 amp driver from blf user Lexel in it. But it turns the back switch into a standbye button and uses the e switch for on of ramping etc. I would go to the official convoy aliexpress store and get a original driver and mod it with a r100 resistor. There is a good video on youtube how to do this.

I always found good ol’ Larry interesting - kind of a weirdo. Probably hard to NOT be a weirdo when you have that much money. But that username is just kind of a goofy joke with some old friends of mine.

And to the other folks that replied below, thank you very much!
